Alexandroupolis to Kulata (Bulgaria) - Part 1 Alexandroupolis to Xanthi

Today our train heads into the mountains, we pass abandoned trains and stations where nature is busy reclaiming land lost to the railway. The scenery becomes ever more dramatic as we climb past pretty villages, along river valleys, through tunnels, then cross the fertile plains to Komatini and Xanthi on our way to the border crossing at Kulata, reputed to be the birthplace of the famous Gladiator -Spartacus

Despite the track at 7: 12 being in apparently good condition, there is a creeper / vine climbing a signal post and that needs to be removed immediately. There is little sign of cultivation or pastoralism of fields close to the railway over much of the video. Combine this with rotting goods wagons and abandoned goods sheds, overgrown sidings and deserted stations. There is obviously something wrong in Bulgaria

Did the forward-facing camera fail or something? Because I'd really like to see the whole forward-facing track view version of this, if possible. I love being able to see where the various sidings and other tracks branch off of the line the train is on.
And, fun fact, there was a satirical graphic novel (like a comic book but not directed at children) about a land called Xanth.

The track seems pretty well maintained, mostly with welded rail, at any rate. Interesting that the points are worked by hand, though, there's apparently no interlocking. I wonder is that rolling stock abandoned by the wayside still officially owned by anybody? Has it just been forgotten about? Is it too much trouble to retrieve it for scrap?

Hi Tim another fine vid, Love the multi cam shots and scenery, The track looked well maintained for 2 trains a day, There's certainly a charm about old wagons on a siding with vines and tree, s growing thru them it's time's
of year's and year's gone bye, Now for part 2 cheer's from BOB in the wonderful world of -OZ-.

P. S. One question: you begin of the 'Black Sea Express' travel with Alexandroupolis. It's sea port city. You was traveling to Alexandroupolis at a sea cruise?

Why they stoped the train Aleksandropolis - Svilengrad? It s a crime, no train between Greece and Bulgaria by south east!
