Ride one of Europe-s most Spectacular Railways

Montenegro - Bar to Kolasin via the awesome Moraca Canyon. The first time I heard about Montenegro, I consulted an atlas to discover it was part of the old Yugoslavia, situated on the Adriatic coast, sharing borders with Croatia, Albania, Bosnia and Serbia. My wife wanted sunshine and sandy beaches, I wanted a train ride, Montenegro offered both. The coastline was everything the brochures promised and the railway surpassed all my expectations. The train was well presented and our carriage looked as though it has just come out of the workshops after a full overhaul. The line starts by the Adriatic sea at Bar, skirting along the coast to Sutomore where it turns inland passing beneath the coastal mountain range, emerging from a long tunnel to cross the picturesque Lake Skadar on a causeway. The route continues across fertile farm land to the capital city -Podgorica-. Now our journey starts to get really dramatic as we enter the Moraca River Canyon, climbing ever higher, we cross the world-s highest railway bridge (until 2001) before plunging straight into another long tunnel, finally exiting into more stupendous mountain landscapes to re-join the Moraca Canyon for stunning views of the River far below. This is no ordinary train ride, take a seat and join me for a journey you are sure to remember for a long time to come

My goodness the rivers are so clear and blue with a green tint to it so clear i may think its safe enough to just drink out of it like the cows and donkeys lol! naw i don't want to drink out of the river like a cow or a donkey but i don't mind being hung like a donkey! (funny smirk)

I rode this last September in the opposite direction, all the way from Belgrade to Bar. Unfortunately the train was held up at the border, so the last part of the journey was in the dark. Now I can see it thanks to your video, albeit in reverse. I recommend traveling in summer when daylight lasts the longest.

Outstanding video
I was along this trip few years ago, but by car on the road we often see opposite side of the valley. It was so amazing to see trains far up on the mountainside, and the huge works they had to achieve (tunnels, bridges, trenches) to have this track built

A wonderful film in a fantastic landscape, the train trip is spectacular, the sightseeing is wonderful. The line Belgrad - Bar is known as a great mountain-line. Thank you, Tim, for showing us this very interesting railway-line. Greetings from Switzerland

-Stupendous. - I think you nailed it. Maybe because we were look out the window (superbly, I might add, I never had the feeling that we were doing any heavy-duty climbing. However, the sensation of floating was there a lot. Thank you, Tim. Spectacular.

Thank you Tim. So beautiful and picturesque to see places I will most likely never visit. I would so much like to travel by train in this area. Maybe you or someone could lead a tour on this spectacular rail line with people such as myself someday.

That is quite a nice view. :P How long does the journey take altogether? I expect there's probably only two or three trains a day along there? I notice that even the small wayside stations seem to have a stationmaster on duty.

It looked like a dream ride! So many beautiful shades of blue & green! Absolute treat for eyes & soul. It looks like a very less known part of the world! Thanks for sharing pictures of this beautiful place.

Absolutely superb video Tim. Many thanks for sharing it with us. The civil engineering involved in this railway is stupendous and I think a cab ride would be marvellous. Rob.
