When the X2000 was new on the fleet, my aunt-s now ex partner, was one of the early -drivers- of X2000. I remember when he was on the route between Stockholm and Gothenburg in the early 90-s, he-d sometimes call us from the train just before passing by my town, and sometimes honk the train horn when passing by lol -
But even with having family driving the X2000, it took some years before I had the chance to travel with one because I just didn-t travel between the big cities and X2000 was super expensive at the time (it was really mostly aimed at business traveling in the very very beginning) These days when I need to travel to Stockholm I mostly go with MTR Express because they have the same travel time and lower trains which is nice in case the lift is broken (wheelchair user, though ambulatory) so it-s just easier to get on and off the train compared to X2000 which is very high (and very narrow once you do get onboard with a wheelchair) That being said, the seats on X2000 are by far the best we have in Sweden!

That it broke down is no surprise but just par for the course. I commuted on the x2000 for 12 years and whilst it was good to begin with, underfunding and lack of maintenance made it totally unreliable. Normal complaints were that the automatic doors wouldnt open, toilets blocked and closed off, suspension bust so no tipping, heating or AC broken etc etc. Definately running on fumes and time to be replaced. Experienced travellers had a survival kit with them in expectation of having to sit and wait on a feeezing train for several hours waiting to be rescued. So I'm afraid this is not a representative review of what was once a good and modern train service.

I was a conductor on Amtrak's X2000 test train between WAS and NYP in the early 90's. The ride was extremely rough, bumping and jerky on NEC tracks (making walking on train difficult) but when I rode X2000 from Stockholm to Copenhagen on Swedish rails in 2012 the ride was very smooth and comfortable.
Bombardier-built Acela Express trains are a mechanical nightmare and were withdrawn from service twice for extended periods of time due to persist problems that still plague the trainsets. Swedish meatball (AEM7) and Amfleet coaches maintained Acela schedules with no problem. Train crews hate Acela Express like the plague.

As a swede I can tell you those prices are not really affordable in our eyes for the amount of taxes we pay, it's actually REALLY expensive, and the trains are usually really late too
11: 40 the reason it's stopped is because we are on a single track basically through the whole country, so it's really congested and that's why trains always run late and are really full (and expensive) like I mentioned. You will basically always have to stop on your way to let another train past. And like you said in your video, usually really short with nly 5 cars.

The Countrylink power car was not a UK Class 43 Diesel, it was an XPT power car purpose design and built in NSW by Comeng for the NSW railways. It used the Brush electric from the British HST, but a more powerful Paxman motor the HST used. You may note from the photo it is larger than the Brit loco, as NSW has a much larger loading gauge. It is to be replced in the next couple of years by a Spanish car set, doubtless to an inferior spec because of the penny pinching government we have in NSW.

SJ has just started rolling out the completely re-vamped X2000 that you showed the mock-up of. They have replaced both all electronics on the train (such as control systems etc) for more reliability, as well as new interiors that look like they are even more comfortable. Now there's always only one 1st class car (together with a 2nd class calm, which is a quiet car free coffee essentially, but sold as a different travel class from regular 2nd class now.

2: 10 you can sometimes trick the system by booking a ticket to a less popular destination than the one you're going to. Can't think of a good example right now but say you want to travel from station A to station C, and C is where most passengers is heading. But then there's station D which isn't as popular, so check the price for traveling from A to D, and just get off at station C: )

Y'know i never even realized how beautiful most swedish stations are, especially in the larger cities, i grew up with it so it was just what a normal station looks like to me.
Also, in sweden its quite a big deal that everyone should be able to speak english, but in a lot of cases that just means we learn to speak -english-, which isn't very helpful when no one can understand you.

Wish you would speak the text (or use any of the text to speech utilities) I am having a hard time to read the text and view the screen content at the same time. I appreciate the work you do and want to like your videos, but not being able to completely enjoy the content due to keeping my eyes at the bottom is a huge irritant. Hope you will accept my request to speak the comments.

When I lived in Sweden, 20 years ago ( I left due to socialism) train wasn't an option due to SJs then monopoly, nowadays on the very rare occasions I visit Sweden and if I have to take the train I choose one of the private services now available. Much better but I can't recommend any visit to Sweden sadly, there are clearly much better places to visit.

Rode this legacy train last month and many things seem outdated and out fashioned now. The charging socket won't work in Danish Territories. By the way, have you tried on the SJ3000(X55 Regina? Ride it and found the SJ just left a big gap between the window and the seat for its 2+2 2nd class configuration. A wastage of space.

I don't know if you know, but the X2000 actually has a built-in snow plow in front. I like that little detail even though it's probably very irrelevant. Also I love the art of Swedish railway stations. When you're in Gothenburg next time, look up! They have maps of the railways that runs through Western Sweden.

Also something more to add, the X2 is capable of going above 250km/h, however the problem is the Swedish rails, they are old and not so modern, that's the bottle-neck for many trains in Sweden.
The government was talking about new rails for faster train speed(maybe the project is already launched)

To answer your question about what the announcement was in Swedish, very simply, she said, --Simply_Railway, you should have a contest in which the winner, preferably someone from NYC, gets to travel with you for 3 days. - That-s what she said. ---

I have been two times on this route. It's very nice and fast train. And even that my little daughter got little bit sick of the travel and throw up on the floor, the staff react really calm and helped us to finish our journey successfully.

It is better to introduce real time english narration rather than subtitles and moving video. More focus on the outside scenery also enhance your video. I am from Sri lanka and I enjoyed your video. Thanks. I will wait for future videos.

I traveled from Stockholm to Copenhagen in similar train in 2014. It also broke down before Malmo. I had to take another train to Copenhagen from Malmo. Is it a coincidence or a regular feature of SJ trains?

Fun fact: Amtrak actually tested the X2000 in the early 1990s when deciding what the Acela should be. With its corrugated metal sides the X2000 would have fit right in with American passenger rail aesthetics

Good image quality. 2 suggestions. No. 1 invest in a DJI to make your video more stable & No. 2. Pan your camera slowly or else viewer cannot see details or feeling giddy. Look for more good reports. -

Time is weird. I think of the X2000 as a -new train- and remember seeing it for the first time. But I was 5 then. 35 now. Like what. I could swear my life before the X2000 was longer than my life after.

Tbose Australian -Class 43s- Aren't actually class 43s. They are XPTs, which are based on the HSTs but differ with better dust filters, suspension, a downrated engine and deifferent headlights.

I didn't realise until watching this that the X2000 was a push-pull train with a loco and coaches instead of being a multiple unit like a Pendolino. Interesting.

I like the old interiors better. The wood is an excellent touch, reminds me of a late 2000s classroom or lecture hall, which is a strangely comfy aesthetic.

back in 1993 they managed to get a top speed of 276km/h the reason they only go about 200km/h is because we dont have railroads that can handle 300km/h
