Follow the North County Transit District's Sprinter train as it travels from Escondido to Oceanside! Opened on March 8th 2008, the Sprinter travels on a 20 mile line in sunny southern California. The line was originally constructed by the Santa Fe Railroad to serve the once vast number of orchards and farms in the greater Escondido area. Now, the rail line is used by diesel multiple units built by Siemens during the day and for freight trains at night. Come along as we visit some of the more scenic locations on the line between Escondido and Oceanside!

The Sprinter is super-useful now that the Coaster and Surfliner are running at regular intervals in the day. For example, I can catch an 8: 22 a. m. 309 bus from my house, catch the Sprinter at 8: 46, arrive at Oceanside 10 minutes before the Amtrak arrives just after 9 a. m, bound for San Diego. I used to drive to the station, or order a Lyft. These improvements are all due to the doubling of much of the line between San Diego and Laguna Niguel line.

When I was under 10, I thought I lived in California, but I lived in Indiana (Indiana has no trains. I thought I heard this near, but it was some kinda creepy horn (like on these trains, and I could tell because there are several beaches in California, and Indiana does not have any trains.

These trains have issues and parts are hard to come by. NCTD has to get parts re engineered and re ordered as you can't just go out and buy these parts in a parts catalog. NCTD wants to eventually dump these in favor of FRA compliant vehicles that could also be used on the LOSSAN.

i can remember the days fallowing the completion of the line, all of those DMU's had a different horn. The one that you are hearing is the main horn that the drivers use, then you got the warning horn, witch is louder than the main horn.

I certainly hope the ridership has paid for all the upgrades that were done to the infrastructure to get it up and running. I miss the freights that used to be on this line.

I lived in Escondido. My dad used to take us on the sprinter for fun to San Marcos. We would then get pizza at Pizza Nova.
