It's gonna be sad to see the P42s hand off the responsibility of being Amtrak's main long distance locomotives to the ALC-42s, but the ALC-42s do look and sound great and hopefully once Amtrak starts retiring the P42s a few will make their way into museums and tourist line service as well as commuter rail Service.

Having lived in California, I remember the Chargers replacing the F59 PHIs on the Surfliner. Because they are so much sleeker, I thought they were a lot longer and shorter than a P42, but the size difference is negligible. I guess being coupled to a Surfliner car also adds to that illusion.

I really hope the cold weather issues are figured out quick and these engines have a great long service with Amtrak. Great looking engine, can-t wait until them and the Venture cars become more commonplace around the country.

What amtrak could have done is add spoilers to the alc's, then put one on each end, which would have made the train completely aerodynamic
It can also eliminate the need to turn around the train after every trip

The alc-42 is the fastest diesel electric in USA to have existed with a top speed of 125 mph, however there were some different alc class locomotive are in amtrak.

Your trains all look like they are made of lego - different height locos and some carriages. They look so untidy. Passenger trains should be elegant.

I'll always have a heart for the GE Genesis engines, but I really like these ALC-42 Chargers. Love the red and blue paint scheme.
