How The Goldfinch Seeks Authenticity Anatomy of a Scene

How The Goldfinch Seeks Authenticity Anatomy of a Scene

This scene from The Goldfinch starts with a pair of chairs that look mighty similar. But only one is an antique with a long, rich history. The other merely replicates that history. In a film where the primary characters are trying to parse truth from fiction, authentic from impostor, the chairs are an apt metaphor. Oakes Fegley plays the young Theo Decker, struggling to make sense of whats real after surviving a bombing that killed his mother. He finds solace at an antique shop run by Hobie (Jeffrey Wright) and, in this scene, gets a lesson in authenticity. Narrating the sequence, the director John Crowley explains how Wright met with art experts trained in spotting replicas and how that encounter helped him bring a tactile approach to his performance. Here he teaches Theo what to look for, and feel for, to recognize a reproduction.

This is one movie I will pay to see.
We need good stories which challenge us to think.
I purposefully boycott Hollywierd on principles.
Any place that supports the if it bleeds it leads
business model is an exploitative ethic.
Life isn't entertainment.
Learning to discern real from fake, truth from lie is crucial.
Media is too often used to numb us.
If it doesn't make me think. deeply. i don't care to watch.
Thanks for highlighting this excellent film

Will NYT do the honorable thing and voluntarily remove themselves from the WH Press Corps after the criminal assassination attempt against Judge Kavanaugh? Will they need to get the bum's rush treatment?

New York Trash
Judging from comments any video's comments section will be used to tell NYT what trash they are.
The Fake Media must be sued to lose more money than they make from fake stories

NYT, I saw Brett Kavanaugh murdr two women in 1998 because they were a couple. Sure, the two women don't remember it happening, but that doesn't matter! Just print the fcking story!

I love how Hobie, in his unbridled passion for antiques, double dips his saliva to ensure the digestion of 100 years of buttock oils and fluid traces.
Wonderful film.

Hollywood has been producing 'not for working brain cells' movies for decades. Now filmmakers have to explain it shot by shot. What a bunch of morons.

What is this? praise of the director, and not mention EVERYTHING was crafted beautifully by the author of the actual book that took ten years to write?

The NYT is a disgrace and the enemy of the people. You clowns better start learning how to code. Soros won't pay your bills forever.
