People say i've ruined my face - but i won't stop getting inked - hooked on the look

AMBER Stonelake, from Mountain Home, Arkansas, has been collecting tattoos since she was 20 years old. She has become hooked on getting inked and now has the end goal of having one complete body sleeve. Amber told Truly: To me everybody looks the same, I really strive to be different. I don't want to look like anybody else in the world. Amber has struggled with self confidence issues, but with each tattoo she gets, the more she feels like her real self. Despite how Amber's look makes her feel, not everybody in the town feels the same way. Some of the people are like: 'Why did you mess up your face like that? It looks like scribbles on your face' - that's what automatically goes to their brain. Amber knows that people may have their own opinions, but this won't change her mind about looking exactly the way she wants. I don't regret any of my tattoos, I love myself and I love who I am

The one comment I never understand is -What happens when you are older! -. Err they are older with tattoos and so what? I absolutely do not understand what the point of the comment actually is. In reality of course, neither does any fool uttering that comment, they are just opening their mouth.
My wife has a full one concept back piece, I have what is described by some as a 'cape', so a single concept tattoo on my top back, chest, upper arms. My wife is a Dr, I complete all my business in a suit. No one but each other (and our adult children) see our ink, because it is personal. It does not effect our lives.
The advice we gave our children, who are both now PhD Drs, when they were teenagers was think before you get obvious ink. Some sections of society accept it, but many do not. Some professions accept ink. but many do not.
Our son had an inner forearm tattoo. which he has had laser to remove and that fortunately for him has worked 99. 9999%. But at a serious cost and a lot of pain.
Anyone can do what they like. I have no time for society or the views of other people. but I am aware you cannot fight city hall and everyone should remember that before they do anything.

People need to stop equating disapproval with 'hate'. I say this as a woman with five large tattoos on my arms, who can navigate equally comfortably in liberal and more conservative environments. Sometimes I just don't want to be as noticed, or I'd rather not have my tattoos be a distraction in someone else's professional photos. That's the obvious issue with face tattoos: you never have the option to cover them (except perhaps with copious amounts of time and makeup for smaller ones. And we almost all encounter times when we'd rather look less conspicuous.

the fact she was depressed and whatnot without tattoos and is now happy and growing into her true self shouldn't be looked down upon but congratulated. Not a lot of people i feel figure out what they like or want and go do it and honestly, life is too damn short and full of hate and sadness to NOT do what makes you happy (as long as it's not hurting you or others of course lol)

It's not just conservatives judging you. It's liberals and non-political people. You just happen to live in a conservative area. The conservative party these days is not your grandpa's conservative party. I don't think any Republicans out there care about your tattoos LOL to be fair the one tattoo does look like a bunch of scribbling but if you like it that's cool. That's all that matters

There's a reason for stereotypes. It is a natural survival instinct. Has a lot of people with face tattoos can be dangerous. Just because you are not. Doesn't mean it's the safer choice to pretend everyone with face tattoos perfectly safe. That's like just assuming every time a white van pulls up to you at night that they're just asking for directions.

According to professional ink master you shouldn-t tattoo your face unless you have a full tattooed body. Some would even refuse to do it. I don-t agree with this because it-s your body it-s your choice and if you regret it in the future. lesson learned -

Of course she can do whatever she wants, it's her body, but this is a public forum and we can comment if we choose to and she's going to definitely regret this down the road. tattoos are permanent folks, and it's your face! -

I lived in Mt. Home for 10 years. I am also heavy tattled, it is very religious (I am a christian. But as conservative as it is I was. treated with nothing but respect and love! I still have many ppl I care about there!

Sometimes i dint believe all the negative reactions these people get what to be fair the one thing I could say is I live in New York City so I guess it's more usual to see people heavily tatted and very artsy

Such a beautiful girl, and so softly spoken. People will always judge, tattooed or not. Embrace your individuality and stuff the haters.

You look beautiful with your tattoos! Keep it up and live your life and your dream! It's the same for me and sometimes I'm not even served here because of my appearance! Hurts but we are strong enough!
reply

She makes me smile, she doesn't seem to have an ego or a horrible personality, she seems like a soft individual who just has her own views on how she wants to look and goes for it
reply

Beautiful. Buuut today we who have tattoos are perhaps still a minority but its not that uncommon anymore =) and kids are so nonjudgemental. My son also hardly notices im heavily tattooed =)

I really wish people would learn to mind their own business. Tattoos are a expression of yourself there is nothing wrong with them or getting them however you want to get them.
reply

I think she looks beautiful. Her tattoos look like she placed them to go with the shape of her face and I think that makes them look like they belong there.
reply

Damn she is so pretty
I mean I like her face and personality
I don-t wanna her to cover her face cuz it-s so pretty but she seems happy so that all matters

It must be heartbreaking for her daughter's to hear people talk badly about their mom.
The family should just move to California because it's the norm here.

-I don't want to look like anyone else in the world- - How young women should feel, rather than feeling less than because they DON'T look like someone else -
reply

I'm not a fan of tattoos not for myself. but if people love them then it's their body their life. She's such a sweetheart. I see a beautiful kind woman.

The ink trend ended over 10 years ago, this person is very late, the big trend and business today is tattoo removal. Who couldn't see that happening -
reply

The tattoo's mean something to you so that's all the matters people should not look at you just because you have them as your a good person in it all. ----
reply

She's a sweetheart. I'm so glad she got over hating her body. That body gave her two beautiful children. and she's decorated it how she likes it -

You Truly look awful -- And you used to look so Pretty. . But my opinion is mine and Tattoos on Women are not for me and i also don-t have Tattoos -
reply

I'm not into heavily tattooed women, especially with the face and neck area, but she seems really nice. She has an appealing quality about her.

She is beautiful. Unfortunately there are many people who can-t see the beauty of body art and i feel sorry for those people.
reply

She's definitely not scary but beautiful, I'm not a fan of face tattoos but it's her body and as long as she's happy so be it
reply

She seems so kind hearted and light and breezy and she-s still beautiful and it seems like that is coming from within too -
reply

It-s hard to be different, especially in a small town. Takes a lot of courage to be who you really are.
reply

i have mixed feelings about this but then again i have extreme mixed feelings about tattoos in general.
