LEAH Punch, 29, from Cork was overweight for most of her childhood. She found out she was 26 weeks pregnant at 21 years old because all her pregnancy symptoms were symptoms she already had due to being overweight. After she gave birth, she was in the ICU for weeks and after that, her doctor told her that if she carried on her lifestyle she would die at 22 stone - it gave her a wake-up call. Leah says getting weight loss surgery is just a tool and she maintains her weight by controlling food rather than letting it control her and going to the gym

I broke my leg, and have put on so much due to inactivity and eating pretty much whatever I pleased. Well, now I-m recovered from ankle surgery, and physical therapy is beginning in earnest. It-s been a wake up call. I-m now doing calorie restricted, healthy diet. I found a calorie calculator that tells me calories required to maintain my current weight, and how many to lose. It-s based on age, height, activity level, and gender. As you lose, you adjust accordingly. I-m keeping track of what I eat, and measuring portions. It-s amazing how many extra calories I was getting just by not paying attention! For example, a tablespoon of dressing really does fo a long way, provides some necessary fat, and a lot of flavor. You don-t need 6! Haha. Same with sweetener. I just dislike artificial sweeteners, but one teaspoonful sugar is a mere 16 calories, and is just fine for a cup of coffee. I also find filling my plate with mostly veggies and a small portion of meat is so satisfying. Large salads with chicken are filling and yummy. Berries, grapes and mandarin oranges help with the sugar cravings. So far I-m doing good!

You look wonderful. I have also had a transformation. I was up to 325 pounds, my knees and feet were killing me. I do concrete work for a living, which involves a lot of climbing, in and out of footings, up and down wall forms. 14 months ago I went on the ketogenic diet, and did intermittent fasting. I am down to 185 pounds, and have no problems climbing anymore. Still have the skin, can't afford the surgery, but I am happy man.

I-m a maternal sepsis survivor. You are an inspiration to me. It-s so hard to lose the weight once you have become ill with sepsis and the aftermath that brings I know only too well because you suffer post sepsis. But you are a total inspiration to others thank you x

Hi I loved seeing your success I would like to know what type of arm reduction was it? There are no scars going down your armsI know there is a procedure where it's hidden in the arm pits you had a remarkable surgeon. By the way you've always been beautiful

You look Amazing. Most weight loss is achieved and maintained by a change in a mind set, which unfortunately does not always happen. If you do not change the way you view food, the weight will creep back up. Most people seek therapy and stay on it for life.

Fat shaming from a stranger seems so much more preferable than a death threat from a doctor.
Well done to this woman for her efforts. Just a shame that people have to look death in the eye to lay off the junk food to save their own life.

So pleased for her transformation. She works out 3-4 times per week which shows it-s not just surgery but her dedication and changes she has made to transform her health. This is incredible.

I'd like to see more stories about people who lost weight WITHOUT having the surgery. To me, they are more inspiring.

Pseudomonus is a horrible, nasty infection. It can go through your body, system by system, organ by organ.
