Yes, it is sad of the world that is now, that computers are telling us what to do, how to live, whatever. They are a poor replacement for the good hard and honest life known by those who struggle and overcome huge obstacles or achieve their dreams after years of effort! Not that you can put the Genie back into the bottle, but we must be wiser about selecting the good or excellent ways that are truly the best for us and our world. In the same manner that once the Genie was released from his nuclear bottle, that we all should be building nuclear resistant homes and cities, the same with AI and our computers all around us. Choose carefully, the words you believe, the ideas you follow and honor. Choose only the most excellent ways, not always the easiest or quickest! Be somewhat resistant to the artificial and manipulated AI that is raising its' head all around us. Demand to know the truth, if these words are AI, or these photos, or video, or phone calls Did human write this idea from mind to paper, or was it manufactured

Hey Jake! I’m Tammy, age 64 and I live in a small town in Arkansas in the foothills of the Ozarks. I love your videos! Y’all amaze me in so many ways! I own the house I live in bc my parents deeded it to me. My 92 1/2 yr old daddy lives with me although it feels like it’s me living with him. I was a HS teacher but have been on disability since 2011. When I found you and Nicole you were just arriving there and I got to see you set up the yurt. I was in bad shape from severe infections following knee surgery. In one year I ended up with five knee surgeries and watching y’all gave me so much joy! The replacement I had has been a failure so I will have surgery again July 29 to get a third new knee replacement. You and Nicole are so blessed to have each other! Your children are so beautiful!

I'm in North Carolina. I'm 67 years old and been married for 47 years. I left home when I was 16, joined the Air Force at 17 with permission from my parents, and went through basic training at 18. Shipped off to mechanic training at 18 in Illinois and then my first duty station in Arizona. So yes, you could say we had somewhat similar shocking experiences before we were 20 and zero cell phones to help out. It was great. I wouldn't change it for anything. And like you, the rest of my life challenges were made easier because I already believed in myself. Bravo for both of us. You have accomplished so much and your confidence definitely shows. Now I know why.

YES! Jill from CA. This was my experience in France in 1994. Internet was just starting out, with no cell phone, and fax was the fastest communication besides a landline phone call! I did not speak French! I had the same experience in China in 2010. I wouldn't change any of it! I wholeheartedly agree that my scary (at the time) experiences made me a much better traveler and world citizen. I enjoy your adventure because I'm now in my 50s and feel my chance of finding an off grid life slipping away. I'm NOT giving up, though! Thanks for the inspiration, which is encouraging.

I’m a 65 year old retired teacher and picked up photography and love it. My husband and I of 42 years had two children which are living their best lives as much as possible as this economy allows sadly. We have one grandchild whom we love dearly. We have always been adventurous growing up in WV and then moved to a city environment lol and felt kind of like you did ping to a place in which we weren’t familiar with. Enjoy your videos but please shorten them so we can more easily watch them. This one was good.

You are right on! The hardest struggles, teach us the most. What an experience! Mine would be, being a single mother of 5 and starting and growing a business at the same time! Now I have 70 employees and my kids have grown. But I will never forget the literal blood, sweat, and tears times. A song resignates with me, The Climb. People are always searching for an end result or the destination, but it's all about the experiences along the way!

Love it man! Had a similar experience in Chile. Though the internet existed they were behind the times when I was there and I had to engage with the people to find my way and get public transportation tickets etc. It is a whirlwind that is entirely the best part of the experience. It's not about getting from point A to point B. Its about the the journey it takes to get from point A to point B that make it special and impactful.

Every generation experiences life in a different way. Some good some bad. We all navigate through it and come out the other side with whatever we manage to get out of it. Some never leave the place they were born, others travel the USA, some travel the world. Who's to say which is better. I do agree to not put that phone in kids hands as a pacifier but try to use it as a learning tool.

I’m a 65 yr old female. 1 of 6 kids. I’m in my second marriage of 36 yrs. We have 4 grown children. 5 GK. I have gained a wealth of information from gardening to becoming self sufficient with what we have. We are not off the grid but know we have to survive in our retirement years. Take care of your health and your family. They are everything!

As a 70 yr old now, looking back at my travel excursions, I too learned a lot when living and visiting other countries. All those experiences have stayed with me contributing to who I am. I have lived in Arizona for 58 years and retired from the airline industry. Grew up with a father in the military and the travel bug bit me way back then.

Jake, no offense, but I don't want to know your life story anymore than you want to know mine. I would much rather see you (alone if necessary) go berry picking and see Nicole make jam, or pancakes or served with some kind of cream. Also harvesting from the ocean -that kind off content.
Does anyone agree with me

Great video and so true. I can't imagine going to China and going through all you did. Life is lived via social media and not by experiencing it. I am guilty of this to a certain extent. I, really hope some younger viewers listen to your videos and learn from your experience. Looking forward to upcoming videos.

Very very true! The loss of independence and self-reliance is staggering in today’s atmosphere. I enjoy nothing more than to going to another country or off grid and making it work. Many of these milestones cannot be taught, researched, but only lived. I feel for the youth or anyone today if the energy goes out.

Knowledge is power but you didn’t have enough of it to make you experience better. Convenience is what we want. if this is not true you wouldn’t have baby carrier that holds two. How much is too much is not a debate. Live your life and be happy and don’t judge. As technology gets better we grow. Not inspirational

Hello From Australia. I'm 53 and a Royal Australian veteran. Just bought 200acc and been camping since March building roads in and next a weir over the creek so I can get building materials up to the house sight in the mountains. No power just solar. I sold my 20acc property and 3 bedroom house to get out of Dept.

It is sad that now my life is consumed by watching other people’s lives. I don’t experience things on my own
I have been doing this so long that I physically and mentally cannot accomplish day to day activities on my own.
I don’t want to watch others live I want those experiences on my own!
