The centre of a penguin huddle can reach temperatures of up to 37 degrees C! How exactly does piling in help these snow animals stay so warm? mike4ty4: Or, in a sense, it lowers the _effective_ surface area-to-volume ratio.
I also note that their blubberier, sqwushier bodies help them to create better thermal contact. Not to mention looking very scroocious.

If heat moves from hot to cold then why does the mug in the center become warmer than the cups surrounding it? It should, by definition, achieve equilibrium with all the surrounding cups.

In short if you suddenly found yourself in the Antarctic cold search for a penguin huddle and dive in it so you can stay alive.
