I would go through at least 4 gallons of sugar water daily to keep up with them. They also eat tiny insects as well.
I had to remove the flowerettes so that 3 could feed at a time, one sitting on the perch and two hovering to each side with another three hovering in line behind them. I would have several of them sitting on my shoulders.
One was missing a leg and they all would look out for him, another was blind and I would hold him while the rest would feed in the evening (quite the crowd) then he would eat, come sit in my hand and fall asleep for a while then off to his nest.
One of the beautiful and amazing things I've seen.

Dear Brothers Mr. Sam&Simon: I appreciate you both for the beautifully captured video about humming birds in your camera at LA. Really I am astonished, you people have made them attracted with the honey dew feeder. But so for man find out ways & means to accept mans brain to consume drinks like Cococola, Peosi etc, all are arromatic chemicalcompounds based. Thank you Brothers. SELVA/CA, USA.

Allens or Rufous? I dont know what its likely to be in the Ruby-throated area of the U. S.
EDIT: In California we get both, and theres some overlap in when theyre coming through, so unless I see one with virtually no green, I just enter Selasphorus species in eBird.

Earths one of the smallest creatures and yet so amazing. that only happens in this world, we need to celebrate and appreciate that fact, beyond our ozone layer that is very likely not to exist anywhere else in the universe.
