Ever feel like there's a international team of bad guys changing all of the easily remembered chemical names and turning them into test-failing, number-infused, pain in the neck names? Well. you're not wrong. IUPAC exists but try to keep in mind that they're doing it for the greater good. In this episode, Hank talks about IUPAC, prefixes, suffixes, ranking, numbers for carbon chains, and cis or trans double bonds. Pssst. we made flashcards to help you review the content in this episode! Find them on the free Crash Course App!

I really enjoyed this video but here's some food for thought. You went on saying how valuable the IU Pac naming system is entire video and then at the end said that looking things up and in the end was the best option. I would like to note that the name of a molecule is not only useful for chemists. Having some context with respect to the chemicals origin might be useful in other fields. I'm not making a claim that one way is better than the other simply put I see utility in both. I think it would be cool if a fusion if you had for example cinnamaldehyde and then be chemical nomenclature part. With respect to chemicals being Universal that is a very good point and something that should be taken into consideration when giving the chemical origin name part

YO WHAT! When he mentioned angelic acid the animation used was Pit from Kid Icarus! Dang I didn't think that I would find a cool video game reference from such an underrated game franchise in a chemistry video
Edit: I just want to see some King of Fighters references now (even though I don't think it'll happen anytime soon haha)

Hi. -Cis- and -trans- should come in lowercase and italic. In addition, under the new IUPAC 2013 rules, priority should be given to using the (E) and (Z) estereodescriptors rather than cis and trans

My mom sent me here after having a break down a week before my Organic chemistry final. I'll let you know if this helped in two weeks.

What y-all here for 12 grade chem. my science teacher wants me to break down all of this in a two minute video as a freshman.
