i believe that there is a conection between zeus (or more likely, zdeus from wikipedia)
have a conection to the slavic dragon in particular and other dragons in general.
lets start with a etymological example: semele, the mother of god bachhus from zeus, have a realtion with zemele, the slavic earth goddes, who related to the fem and male dragons zemya and zmaj througth the root zmija -earth- and -d-ghom-.
also, other deities are realated to zeus and zemele by the same term: zalmoxios of the thracian tribes on the dannuba river, zduhac and his fem enemy ajdaha (drive from persian dragon azi dahaka) and solomonari, and they from romania and bulgaria, the neibhoors of greek.

You wanna know what I think? (In all seriousness) I think that if aliens visited our planet long ago, we would have thought they were gods, and their technologies would have seemed like magic to us. Now, I do also believe that many of these aliens had achieved _inter-dimensional_ travel (meaning they had essentially mastered quantum physics, and could become non-corporeal) and that all consciousness (souls) does in fact originate in the highest dimension, where it has control over physics itself. Essentially, we were all -God, - if you will, and we created reality, then came down through the dimensions and incarnated on different planets to experience what we had made.

My guess is myths were 3 fold, 1: A maturity sort of, waypoint when you eventually get wise enough an mature enough to know they are not true, but understand there are deeper meanings that help you and society, kind of like the Easter bunny, Santa and others we have. 2. A subconscience reminder that if you don't act decent to other people and family its going to cause you a lot of grief and drama, eventually. 3. Entertainment. They probably start out pretty basic, but as society evolves and gets more complex the Myths do also or people loose interest, also they probably evolve along with fads, like Reality shows and others we have.

I just realized, based on the definitions of myth that you present one could argue that the wild west and cowboy attitude (and all the fiction surround it) is modern mythology within the United States. It serves as a nation wide identity even though none of it has any histocial accuracy. As a European and an outsider I get the impression that this very false -self made lone rider badass- has been more incorporated in the national identity than any christian wholesomeness. Everyone already knows that the life and setting of the Western never took place at any time period in reality.

thank you, this is interesting. But can you please add resources too?
I want to know more about Levi Strauss's approach and it would be great to see where you took this information from. Also, it would increase the credibility of the content as well.

Book recommendation: The Muse in the Machine: Computerizing the Poetry of Human Thought by David Gelernter. No, I won't spoil it except to say it's VERY relevant to this topic despite it sounding nothing alike at first glance.

EXCUSE me. Nietzsche was NOT a facist. His ideas were twisted and used to justify facism by other people. I know because I double checked before calling my dog Nietzsche. double check before you call someone a proto- facist, damn.

garbage. India. then untouchable army stole texts. the world knows. Ever wonder if there myths tell a single storyline from different points geographically but simultaneously?
reply

Not the first to point it out but Nietzsche can't be considered a fascist or nationalist. He didn't even seem happy being a German at times. His sister was a fascist though.
