most people misunderstand speedreading. -
the obvious reason is how bloated promises people use to market these, but the core system is more effective skimming of the material. -
It does work. -
Very important with speed reading is to scan the book quickly, then skim the material, read relevant things, and then get back to important issues. -
when you speed read the study material, you can review the material 4-5 times in the same time you slow read it, you get a lot better overview, you see the big picture better than with slow read. Danger is that you have to lose a lot of small details. -
Considering how memory works, you lose the details anyway, so it is a lot better to get the main points and the big picture, because those stay a lot longer.

-SCAR- he says to his audience that probably include people with disabilities like dyslexia (bc you know, this is a series about how to learn. I don't mean to sound offended, I just felt a little bad and went like, 'ouch' when he said that. Still love the series tho

Never seen a speed reading technique that tries to eliminate inner speed, but always physical speech, that subliminal movement your mouth might do while reading, only a problem for less educated people who have never read a lot.

Pardon me, but when should I use the Morse Code and when should I use SQ3R?
I-m not sure if he explained both as different formatting methods, or if I should use one for the other, or if I should do one after the other.

I miss reading text books. I-m a poli sci major, so most of my reading assignments are academic papers, and you know. they aren-t written for students, so it-s kinda hard to go through all of them -

Slow reading is ALSO very important technique when studying, it fits very well when material is not very large and packed with information, here speed reading is next to useless, only hinderance.

Another acronym based strategy is RTFM. Read The Fine Manual. Many like to use a different word beginning with F, but Fine is cleaner and less likely to offend your more conservative friends.

1. Arguement > description > context
2. Set timer
3. Pseudo skimming
4. Highlighting:
-. - for main idea
--- for explanation and example
5. SQ3R

reply

What about skimming? In textbooks there's bolded words, captions, examples, table of contents, glossaries. don't read everything focus where your prof focuses.
