It can be hard to strike the right tone or know what-s going to appeal to someone, but there are tricks. We can craft a narrative and use well-placed emotional appeals to tell customers a story. Even if you don-t consider yourself a persuasive person, you don-t need a +5 charisma modifier to succeed at this crucial stage of entrepreneurship

-envy, fear and pride-? Why not just threaten to shoot them if they don't buy our product. manipulating a customer into taking a decision he/she will regret in the long run by triggering them emotionally isn't legitimate at all and should be as illegal as threatening them. Sure there are ways to legitimate everything, for example -I steal money from other people because I will invest it in a smarter way than them- but you always need a healthy amount of self-doubt, since experience has shown that humans who really believe the are right are sometimes wrong
How to really sell stuff: 1. make stuff that makes life for other people better 2. show them that stuff exist 3. let them decide if they want it or not, if not try to rethink what you're selling instead of trying to manipulate them

persuasion, how interesting a topic.
'aww c'mon, I wanna go play on the swings. I don't like the merry-go-round- is Innocent and harmless enough.
What industry has done is capitalize on it even to long term subversive manipulation, conditioning populations and generations to be impulsive and gluttonous.
I detest industry and it's methodology. Moreover, controversial would be my next statement.
Sugar is a super food best left to the metabolisms of birds and insects. I think most of us could see this as a legitimate argument, yet we are sure to do nothing about. Place the Twinkies, Mountain Dew and all the like on heavy tax and age purchase limit? That will not happen either though it is killing us.
I could sit here and write all day but I'll end it here.

I have to say, even presented like this in the least evil way possible, all of sales and marketing still feels overtly slimy.
None of this was about having the better product or presenting anything factual; it was entirely about emotional appeals.
I get that appealing to emotion is effective, and that your competitors are definitely going to do it even if you don't, but I have a hard time with it ethically.

Crash Course, I see you taking a little heat on this episode. However unintentionally I may add to it, I'd preferred this episode to be more about persuasion than how to pitch. I am disappointed.
reply

Hmmmph, I feel like I know what I want so strongly most of the times that even the slightest push from a sales pitch person makes me retreat and not listen to what they have to say.

Yeah, I'm sure the middle ages were FULL of princesses who excelled at being entrepreneurs designing and selling clothes, totally plausible and in line with history.
reply

Gosh, I dont know if it's the tone the episode was spoken, or how it was written, but I couldn't finish it. It sounded so evil and manipulative, ugh.

This was trippy lol. I was like. is that Anna? Am I being racist? But then I saw the cat in the background and I figured it has to be her lol
reply

I feel like 1/2 of Anna Akana's videos are about how to resist having your greed, fear, envy, pride and shame be manipulated by other people.
