Watching these creatures deal with reproductive issues, you come to appreciate Nature's ingenuity in solving a wide range of issues. From elaborate courtship rituals designed to appease aggressive females, to simply hard-wiring certain body parts so they keep performing the actions they need to even when disconnected from central command. It all works and in many cases, has done so for millions of years.
The lesson we can take from this is that there is no one 'right way' to do anything!

I’m new to raising mantises, when I mate them usually I supervise them, I currently have tenodera sinensis and Stagmomantis Limbata nymphs, I’m still waiting for my Iris Oratoria ooth to hatch, by the way I had a female Stagmomantis Limbata that lived until the first day of 2025. I’m still looking for Stagmomantis Californica, which are very hard to find, I do have many other species of invertebrates at the moment: )

Now look at a barnacle and realise how pedestrian your imagination is.
There are some incredibly weird things residing on our doorstep, the ocean doubly so.
From so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.

I'm afraid I had missed this unusually (everything's so in Deep Look though) intriguing barnacle episode. Hermaphrodite, you say Any other crustaceans like it as for mating Crabs & lobsters, for instance, females carry fertilized eggs under their abdomen. That's more likely to us viewers. Barnacles must be a hybrid with coral or sea anemone!
