Malta is a beautiful country, but politically it has become deeply corrupted by clientelism, political connections and the influence of big business. Anyone denying that there is a serious problem is simply ignoring reality.
Our population is already around 600, 000, and when you take the huge number of tourists and temporary residents into account, the pressure on the country is even greater. Malta is becoming severely overcrowded. A journey that should take 2030 minutes can easily take 13 hours, as a standard.
And then we have a government that has the audacity to portray Malta as a country enjoying a luxury lifestyle, where apparently people can afford boats and the good life, while ordinary residents can sometimes be left without electricity for hours or even days during serious outages.
The impact on the quality of life and mental wellbeing of Maltese society cannot simply be ignored. Yet no accountability is taken and neither is the long-term planning

Statistics tend to be extremely misleading when used to compare things that are not comparable. Malta is a very, very small country, and thus shouldn't be compared to big countries, but rather to metropolitan areas. Malta's population density is not higher than that of other European metropolitan areas such as Madrid or London. And, in terms of migration, of course a very small influx or outflow of people would move the percentages a lot in Malta, while not representing any meaningful change in a country with millions of people.
Malta is simply small, which involves that small changes in society are proportionally bigger than they would in a country with millions of people. For the good, and for the bad.

Hey mate, you have a small mistake at 28: 36. The sentence written for Tunisia is actually Maltese, and the sentence written for Malta is not Maltese, so I assume it is meant for Tunisia. Also, might as well add that I believe the latest figure for Malta's birthrate (TFR) is 1. 00, not 1. 06 (including the foreigners and whatnot.
Edit: nice video though I enjoyed it. To add to the end, seems like a lot of Maltese people dislike the direction Malta is headed, with the overpopulation, cars, overtourism, and endless construction.

I hate to be that guy but at 8: 59 the map of the extent of the British Empire is wrong. Although Egypt was technically only a British protectorate at this time, so was Uganda, which is clearly shown as being part of the British Empire in this map. Additionally, you’ve only included Sudan as a modern state in your map. Prior to 2011 Sudan and South Sudan were one country and thus the area between Uganda and Sudan should be highlighted in red.

I hate to be that guy but at 8: 59 the map of the extent of the British Empire is wrong. Living in Malta, sucks big time, I'm Maltese but had it not been for my disabled child, I would have left. Malta lost its character and if the government gets what it wants this island will cease to exist as we know it. The EU screwed us big time, we lost the second strongest currency for the cheap euro, and we lost our independence and sovereignty, it would have been better if we remained under British rule than the European one. This island is cursed.

You sir don't know history the British didn't just turn up to malta and take over with the convenience if kicking out the French the rich families of malta asked Britain to administer and the contract if that stated the Maltese could go back to administering malta at their request which eventually the Maltese did and became independent this was a more common occurrence in the empire than most realise rich raj rich Maltese it was all the same deal

Malta had until recently a stable population of about 450 - 500, 000. It had been like this since the early 1980s. What has changed is that as part of the EU Malta is obligated to take in huge amounts of foreign workers, migrants and also Europeans who can now move in and buy property in the middle of the Mediterranean. Most of the increase in population numbers comes from these sources.

Why Because the leading party doesn't give a shit about people's quality of life and import foreign workers without limits. Because they want their buddies making money on excessive construction to make even more money. And because the partisan voters like sheep vote for the same two parties no matter what they do, only because their families always voted for these parties.

When mentioning the low tax rates you should also have mentioned the piss poor wages which are also significantly low compared to the rest of the EU. Hence why the government keeps importing third country nationals for cheap labour to keep the wages low. This is the main reason why population growth has exploded since the labour party was elected in government.

between the end of 1940 and 1942, malta was the most bombed place in europe and it's actually incredible that the axis and italy didn’t concquer it, cause in 1940 the british were occupied in defending the island from the germans but luckily we know that mussolini didn't care about malta initially, it should've been his principal objective in 1940

So the people in charge are intentionally flooding the country with new people, while seemingly unconcerned with the indigenous people die off. Easy! Its starting to sound like a huge swap of the European population. But thats just a conspiracy theory.
