We studied the byssal threads in Molecular Biomechanics back in university. Incredibly strong but flexible materials that scientists are working on replicating, but we never covered how the mussel actually generates the thread in the first place. Fascinating footage as ever!

Fun fact: I had a dream my teeth did that. Like when you floss it breaks those so threads so that's why you hurt if you haven't flossed in a while. My brain lagit made a method, I should probably stop watching deep look before I sleep XDDDD

I always thought this was fibers from a burlap rope that the mussels were grown on, like in an oyster farm. I didn't know it was naturally occurring.
