Electronic Basics #28: IGBT and when to use them Marcelo: Hello Mr Scott, first you are a great teacher giving us those amazing explanations about the electronics, thanks, I write you because I need a little help with the behavior behind a circuit I reverse engineering a time ago and I can not figure out how it works, my knoledge in electronics is not big as I want. I have this schematics in tinycad and I will like to send it you, if is not an abuse please give me your email so I send you the schematics so you can help me, my email is mchevesgmail. com. Sorry for my english, it is not my first lenguage. Thank you

It seems to me that one BIG factor on driving MOSFETs is the high Gate-to-Source capacitance. e. g. When the Drain is grounded and you switch a high voltage (open collector style) load, it reflects back thru the Gate so your driver has to be able to handle this transient. I wonder if this issue does not exist in the IGBT.

Your tutorials about electronics components are great, but may you please slow it down and teach us your calculations step by step 'cause this way we can create our own circuits and in the same we can understand what kind of components we can use for it, may you?

High voltage mosfet are available, but are very costly and their RDSon it's not so low compared to low voltage mosfet (some are in the hundred of mili ohms, for higher voltages and currents IGBT are more cheaper and can have the advantage of less power dissipation

Started reading the comments and I was laughing too much to pay attention. I still dont know what igbt is but Im assuming I should be offended. Then again Im not supposed to assume Anything! I also just heard that the word marijuana is racist. .

I want to use the power windows, motor controller, for up and down 3-4 sec for up the same time interval for down. No need speed. For bridge driver, I don't know if IGBT or MOSFET to use. What can me suggest? I will use Arduino as MCU. Thank you

Hi, this is great, simple to understand and straight to the point! How can i access all the tutorials starting from number 1 please? Thanks

Thanks for such an informative video.
What about the BJT Sign, I am confused with the arrow at COLLECTOR. I have learnt it at EMITTER.
