I don't trust ebay or AliExpress BMS: P, but I have my reasons. Just today I've charged a battery pack with a BMS inside and after the charge was stopped, the voltaje is less than expected. After checking the batteries voltages I've seen how one of them is at 4. 2v, but the others are at 3. 7v so is not balancing my batteries. That's why I want to learn how to create my own BMS. At least I'll know the real features and not the features that maybe it will have.

Know-How
What is the preferred/most efficient way to monitor an 18650 battery bank built for something like a car or part of a house, where there could a large number of cells (i. e. 1000 cells. Using BMS's like these seems impractical (I'm now even sure how you could, is there another way in which a large quantity of batteries is managed? P. S. Love the FritzBox 7490, I've got one too, they are great units: )

I don't understand how the DW01A can protect an individual cell from overdischarge - does it trigger the big MOSFETs that control the output? Because the little mosfets cannot disconnect one cell from the circuit - the cells are connected in series externally (by wires that don't pass through the BMS. So the only way the BMS can stop a cell from being over-discharged is by cutting power to the load.

Over complicated. Running 10Kwh of Nissan Leaf cells. NO BMS. Manual Bal every 6 months. Never been more then 0. 05 v out BMS's are over rated. Systme never more then 50% discharged. Running fine. If I purchased all modules from at the same time I wouldn't need to bal them at all. Purchase your batteries all at one time and don't bother.

Thank you so much for the video. I am biggest fan of yours.
One thing I want to ask you that you haven't shown the charging of the cells. Please make a good video for the same.
Actually, I am an electrical and electronic engineer and planning for an EV.

So where is the BMS located in my electric scooter? I don't see it other than voltage controllers, bunch of wires, and a battery. I don't see no BMS. Is it built in to the voltage controller? Or does voltage controller also do the function of BMS too?

Instead of charge the cells to 4. 2 then discharge the ones that are overcharged why not stop charging at 4. 0 then charge one cell at time so when reach 4. 1 or 4, 2 then stop and go charge the next cell and so on?

Great project. Would you recommend to use the above setup for a cordless impact drill that uses a 12v battery? I have an old one that has a dead battery and can't seem to find a replacement.

i was wondering if the dc to dc voltage converter output voltage decrease as the input voltage decrease? or was the output voltage constant even the input voltage decrease?
pls help!
