I am 31 generations descended from Uhtred and, thru his issue, Earls of Dunbar, Lothian and Wedderburn. The son (James Hume) of the 9th Baron of Wedderburn came to America in 1682 on the Caledonia but died (as did his wife) during the crossing, leaving their 12-year old daughter an orphan. 10 years later she married Thomas Hoge who crossed over on the same ship and also lost his father when at sea.

I am a native Saxon from Westphalia northwest Germany after many trips to England I discovered my own Anglosaxon roots. before my journeys I never take care about this history. Nowerdays I have found so many similarities between northwest Germans and the english.
Wow we are really one tribe. Unfortunately the term Anglosaxon is considered racist in some discussions in Britain. very sad

I rather watch the last kingdom than to hear this again.
To be realistic I always say nobody really knows what happened in that era, anyone could have written about it etc. but one thing I know the show is badass! So this is more than 1000 years ago! Thats like saying John Snow was real lol and he did all thatwe dont know what really happened we all come here because of shows!

history should be used as an example for today. these kings fought to unite their countries. to make them stronger. today we have people who want to divide our country and make it weaker. they are against NATO because they don't think it's necessary. turns out it is. brings to life the meaning of the saying, ' united we stand divided we fall.

I watch it every week. It calms me. Even now that House of the Dragon is up. I still love love love Last Kingdom. OH and the great Ewan Mitchell as Aemond Targareyen! I could not belive it. Have you seen him with the white wig and the freakin' saffire in the missing eye! He looks incredible. Totally the opposite of Baby Monk.

It irks me that Utred is so dumb. He succumbs to everyone asking him to fight. He had Mercia and gave it away so easily which will bite him later on. He could have made Athelflead an advisor or something! Not given her all of Mercia. Now he's back where he started in season 1. Fighting for and gaining nothing real from it

this month of July before the end of this month I am very proud to myself I've finished watching #thelastkingdom from Netflix without knowing what the story is about and who were the actors and actresses. The books are better. I listened the first couple of books on Audible and the narrator was brilliant. When he stopped narrating I started reading. It reminds me loads of Sharpe and the warlord chronicles. I loved them

The author Cornwall who wrote The Last Kingdom is a descendant of Uhtred and that is why he tells his story. Absolutely one of the best shows I've ever seen. Truly captivating from start to finish.

I just wish they had kept the series closer the the wonderful Cornwell novels. Fun for the people who don't read or have only watched show, but super frustrating for the fans of the books
