Tomb of the Unknown Soldier: IDENTITY REVEALED Decades Later - History's Greatest Mysteries: Solved PandaBytes: With the advances in DNA technology and the use of genealogy experts, I feel like there is a greater chance of identifying the unknown soldiers than this video suggests. if only the steps would be taken to first run a proper and -modern- DNA test.
When people think of DNA testing, they often think of what law enforcement historically have used to match DNA samples. However, more modern DNA profiles can generate millions of data points useable in identification, and those data points can be used to match a DNA sample with no further than a 3rd cousin in most cases. If we were to use that quantity of information, and combine it with a genealogy tree of said DNA, I'd imagine it entirely possible to work out, with relativity high certainty, who the remains belong to. I know it is entirely possible for multiple people in the same family to be missing, but the chances of that happening and both missing in the same general area around the same time lower the chance even more. Nevertheless, I feel like we owe it to them to at least giving the remains an attempt at identification with modern techniques and technology.

Where would a person submit a DNA sample for the U. S. Navy? The only picture I have of my grandfather - Cyril Janosko (Mom's dad) was when he was 18 in a Navy uniform. No one on his side of the family know what happened to him, although my mother's aunt think that he drowned in a sub. while they were doing manuveurs somewhere in the States. She sermised that the compartment he and others were working had to be 'locked', in order to save others, as the sub was sinking? But no one seems to know if this is true or not. Although I never found him before Mom passed, I was curious about that, as he knew he had a daughter in Nova Scotia, Canada. I know that a relative of hers is buried somewhere in England, as he fought in WW1 - Roland Beck. But, the same as my grandfather, I have no clue as to even start looking for him either.

Just a little bit of trivia with the actor Laurence Fishburne who portrayed a sergeant and then a specialist flanigan in the movie -gardens of stone- which profiled the United States Army's 3rd Infantry Regiment which guards the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery.

The AUSTRALIAN Tomb of the unknown soldier will always be unknown because the government promised there will be no attempt to find out his identity. His body was picked at random and prepared for burial back in Australia, one WW1 soldier who came home.

21 one and me might be able to help all Im saying get dna from remains if you can then use the database if we can use it to find a serial killer why not a soldier he doesn-t deserve to die without family honor
reply

the dna tests are now used for remains so people dont accidently bury the wrong body and worse bury a body of a enemy soldier thinking it was the body of a us soldier which has happened in the past

My respect to Lawrence Fishburne as a person and an actor! Interesting tidbit here, he acted in the Francis Ford Coppola-s film, The Garden of Stones (1987, as one of the US Army-s Old Guard soldiers!

Every kid in school should learn history and especially our nations hero-s who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. So much of history is being lost and changed because they are not taught

Wow! This brings back some memories!
I remember when his verification was big news in his home town of St. Louis which is mine also. Not only that but national news.

so many people are taking those dna tests for genealogical purposes, i wouldn't completely rule out the remaining unknowns staying unknown. unless they never took dna samples of the unknowns

If you ever have the chance to go there, do. The centuries are amazing. Oh and follow directions. They will stop stop what they are doing until you obey. Rain sleet snow. Amazing to watch.

Yeah sounds like the 911 story to me a burned jet made of iron and steel with unburned pieces of papers from wood. The US government told them what they wanted to hear period

The is an error as there is no Jefferson, MO. There is a Jefferson County, Jefferson City, but the Jefferson Barracks Memorial cemetery is in St. Louis, MO.

I bet some kid in each of the wars of those remaining 3 soldiers has their dog tags that their parents took off the body after killings em just my guess

Imagine having the honor of representing all the unidentifiable soldiers or ones that never came home just to have your mum ruin it for you over 10 years.
