The dynamic rise and fall of the mustache, a mustache history documentary for Movember! ZarkinFrood: I wear a handlebar mustache with beard everyday. I get some weird looks, get some compliments, get some shaming. I never grew it to please anyone else or make a statement though. I just saw nice mustaches, and decided to grow mine to even out my facial hair pattern.

It's going to be different for everyone but as a kid i straight up hated the idea of beards and moustaches, always thought the coolest characters in media were clean shaven, there reached a point where i was able to grow my own facial hair that it created a switch in the way i thought about it, Having a beard and a moustache ended up becoming a source of comfort i guess. Clean shaven now seems like a wasted opportunity, due to how everyones genetics differ, no two peoples facial hair are going to grow in the same way, i also found that when i didn't have facial hair in my early teens that there was a certain amount of anxiety i had socialising compared to the present day, Beards and Moustaches have powers.

I became a cop at 20 in 1980 in the South. At that time almost all cops had mustaches. I started and went two years without one and then grew one on vacation. Then I shaved it off. But I found I missed it, so I grew it back and I have sported it to this day. Now I am in a different line of work so I can also have I a nice chin beard, in winter I let it all grow fully out. Great documentary!

Always wanted a beard, but it wouldn't grow. Started shaving clean waiting for the bottom of my face to age beyond only growing sparse, irregular patches. Never happened. When I realized at least the mustache can be grown, it's saved me on shaving time considerably, and razors last longer. And if it filters the dust in the air more, wonderful. The mustache is my salvation.

Freddie Mercury did not grow his mustache to challenge any social norm. Since his childhood, Farookh Bulsara had been nicknamed Bucktooth. He was educated in India, and moved to the UK for his career. The mustache was advised to him to hide his teeth.
Also, when the British tell you that your teeth suck, that's a special kind of humiliation.

I had a pretty big curly moustache while I was a university student lol. It got annoying though because it would tickle my nose and got in the way of eating food. Beards are too high maintanence. Lowest maintanence look is to use a trimmer so you end up with stubble.

moustache is bad, but hair on your head is good. it's the media trying to advertise what's good and what's bad, don't listen to it. just do and grow what you can to make yourself comfortable. i grow a stache and i feel like im me when i do it

Moustaches are so irritating. I keep mine trimmed so it doesnt go in my mouth. The beard grows long, gets trimmed, expands and contracts but the moustache always stays the same. Its as long as possible without interfering with the lip

One of my heroes from history sported a 'stache.
A great and compassionate man.
Vladimir lll of the Romanian House of Dracul.
Better known as Vlad the Impaler.
What a guy!

I think (and this is my opinion) men used to do it to show that they are young and theyve just reached puberty, with long chops to show the early stages of beard. maybe

I personally grow a beard because I hate shaving, but Ive worn a mustache from time to time and really enjoyed it, always got a lot of good feedback and compliments

My dad has what you would call an epic Mustache! Never seen him without it, and Im afraid neither me or my brother will ever inherit one as great as his.

The true meaning of the moustache is a creep in a van with candy and a puppy on a fishing reel outside of an elementary school, sheesh, we all know that!

to be honest, i prefer to have a mustache or to have a full beard and still have a mustache, i am not in favor of chin beards or those without mustaches.

My ex used to refuse to kiss me if my facial hair got too long now Im with a new girl and I look like a cop from the 80s and I love it

A well sported mustache is a sign of a man, who knows his worth as an individual. He's the one who dares, while others only follow.

In my own opinion the more mustache you have the more man you are. I'll take upper lip and lower lip just let it do what it wants.

No moustache = conformist
Moustache = rebel
Beard with no moustache = counter revolutionary
Full beard = barbarian

I work at a oil and gas refinery that doesn't allow facial hair other than mustaches it's probably 80% mustache out there
reply

My mustache doesn't require constant shaving, it's the only thing that grows, but I'm also only 21, so yeah hahaha
