Polyakov: the Spy who Betrayed the Soviet Union and Disappeared Sinn0100: I don't care what his reasoning was but I'm greatful that he helped end Communist oppression. Hansen and Aldrich should both be shot for treason.
Addendum- Wow! Sandy Grimes is not what I would expect out of Langley. she's a stone cold stunner and she helped wage the information war against the Communists, fantastic.

I find it rather interesting that those who were born in America were the ones we note as traitors to the US and those who are viewed as heroes are almost always traitors since they are spies in the first place. Morality with espionage and subterfuge entwined with high risks is not exactly a life worth living for most and in the end, they died for it regardless of what side they stood on. The Soviet Union had its flaws, but to this date, no other country has committed more crimes than the US government. So maybe some self-accountability is definitely warranted instead of taking a slight stance for those who died for one's country did so due to complex motivations that can not be simplified into a heroic narrative.

HISTORY DOSE,
Likely shot in the back of the head?
Please get your facts straight on this man of courage and fortitude.
You can start with the book, A Spy in Plain Sight by Lis Wiehl.
This great man, Dmitry Polyakov, who took no money for his bravery,
was tortured and placed naked on a metal table before being fed to the furnace.
HE WAS BURNED ALIVE.
FBI agent Robert Hanssen was paid 30 grand by the KGB for his name.
May he rot in hell for what he did to this great man who did so much for our world.

One of the main motivations for Polyakov was the death of his infant son. Soviet leadership denied Polyakov permission to take his seriously ill son to a hospital in New York where he could get adequate medical attention. His son died as a result of the illness and soon after, Polyakov began his informant activities.

I read not long ago that when someone was sentenced to death in court, when they were taken down to the cells afterwards, a man was waiting with a. 45 just off the corridor and as the condemned passed by him unknowingly, he would shoot him in the head!
Dont know if true or not but this is what I read

Great writing, and great info, but the author's pro-western biases show in the way they portray the ML movements of Europe as inherently authoritarian while referring to Western authoritarianism as an breach of ideals.
If you can ignore the propaganda aspect, it's a very good story.

How about a documentary on the Venona Project? I was told that is was stopped because the list of names revealed was going to the top of the US Government and Military. And then there was Colonel Edward Mandell House. Worked by the side of Woodrow Wilson but answered to Moscow.

So i have watched a number of these videos as well as countless other historical videos and have found that actual history is often more interesting, exciting and inspiring then most Hollywood movies. If only more historically accurate films were made

Mind you this is the same US that has black people dying for looking at a white person wrong, where women are seen secondary to men and where the FBI operated at the highest level of power to control the nation. The world is not evil/good
reply

They never tell you how many people these double agents got murdered how many countries were destabilized and ruined how many bright minds and futures tarnished and stolen because of the two superpowers of the day.
reply

Please TopHat. He was something else. All the spies of the 1900s were interesting individuals, up to Ames and Hannsen. The techniques rarely changed, But the motivations cast a wide net.
reply

Really well done. Impossible to stop watching. I wanted it not to end. A story of great courage. A shame that he was betrayed by Ames, who was just motivated by money.

The man deserves a movie. Everything I saw was that of a good good man. Betrayed by a greedy piece of crap. I was so angry when I saw the mole I legit got mad and sad.

What an incredible life this man lived. I feel that a great television series should be made about his story. Its the only way his full story can be told.
reply

LoL I don't think I am related to this guy, but we have the same family name and his origin may be the same village we all lived in a 100 years ago.
reply

I think hear is a good time to recommend the movie the good shepared it covers the founding of the CIA and the skull and crossbones society.
reply

The fact he put on his dress uniform before knowing he'd be arrested should tell you all you need to know about this man.
reply

Great vid! Can I maybe request a ill documented subject? Where does the idea of concentration camps come from? The Anglo Boer war?
reply

Insanely underrated vid, even if you dont get a million views you certainly produce high quality content that deserves it.
reply

This is very similar to Clancys under rated Red Rabbit except the book has Ryan getting him out & he dies in the US
