Just the perfect story.
Cursed, they struggled, and stayed strong (in afrika) then they proved themselves to Octavian in the end.
Born in the frigid mountains, they went to Spain and to Greece.
Reborn in Afrika, where we saw the first sign of there coming victory, and then these Africans were sent all the way to North most province of the empire!

Regarding the numerical use of XIIII over XIV. There's numerous examples of the the former usage. In the Israel Museum one can see a 90 CE Latin tablet inscription of a Roman soldier being honorably discharged, within it a clear example of 'VIIII' is being used.

Great video. One can really imagine the terror the newly reraised 14th legion must have felt walking into that camp finding the corpses of their predecessors who had committed suicide.

It's always sweet to hear that after barbarians defeated a legion, Romans would return with many more legions to literally exterminate those animals.

Interesting how they wrote 14 as XIIII instead of XIV. I guess things weren't that standardized back then

Expendable would be a better word. Hardly effective. They kept getting decimated over and over again.
