alparsland didnt bring his main army, they were still on siege another city. he just had his guard force, kurdish levies he gathered on the way and some turkic mercenaries of byzantines who changed side. byzantine emperor should have made training battles before. but it may be true that his generals deliberately left him because you could be the emperor if he dies - they killed him in the end anyway

They should really make an animation for the horses, at least 6 different animations for when they impact a battle line and are struggling to keep on their feet and balance themselves.
Would make Total War games a little more realistic, and with the much needed help of modders, the next Rome or Medieval Total War would be insane. These games need more variety in animations.

While Rome's hostility to Turks dated back to late antiquity particularly against Tengrist Oghuric entities like the Bulgars, Avars, Huns, the arrival of Seljuks marked the begin of a new front against a distinct Muslim powerhouse conquering their way into Anatolia

The Battle of Manzikert paved way for the Turkification of Anatolia which laid the seeds of the Ottoman empire which conquered Constantinople ending Rome and triggering the Age of Discovery which shaped much of the modern world. A battle can only be this impactful

Alp means brave warrior in old Turkish and Arslan means lion. So the Turkish sultan has a really cool name and this is why many baby boys today are named after the sultan who is known in Turkey for opening the gates of Anatolia to Turks.

Another important reason for the success of the Turks was their superior military technology and art of war. These nomads from the Steppes could be credited with introducing ' the age of the horse.

There's a common pattern between Alparslan and Attila both inflicted heavy defeats against the Romans in Manzikert and Ravenna respectively and died just the year after at the height of their power

Seljuks are the ancestors of Azerbaijani Turks and Anatolian Turks. It is an empire that contributed greatly to Anatolia and Azerbaijan being a Turkish homeland and adopting the Turks identity.

It is not mentioned enough in the video that, Turkish crescent strategy and archers played biggest role in this battle, Turkish archer's are the masters of archery!

It is difficult to be a Turk, because you are at war with the world. It's harder not to be a Turk, because you're fighting a Turk

The Byzantines lasted almost 400 years after Manizkert. That's longer than the entire life span of most empires.

Army sizes in this war are very controversial. I think 25-30, 000 vs 80-85, 000.
