You say no one could get the binary bit without translating it to decimal, but, just by knowing the basics of binary, you can deduce a sequence that short could only be a number and not a message of letters, and from there it is pretty easy to just assume that the number was 666 (it is pretty cliche of any 'scary' stories. I had no problem figuring this out while watching the episode without doing any calculations. I'm not even particularly smart, so it definitely isn't impossible for people to catch on to this joke pretty quick.

I hurt my knee a few days ago and with not much to do I found myself bingeing on Numberphile. I have two degrees in Engineering and used to think of myself as a highly trained mathematician. I've mostly worked with solutions tot differential equations. Number theory is almost completely unexplored for me. What a wondrous thing it is. This science, that is entirely a product of human thought, has mysteries that will never cease to leave us perplexed.

Math in futurama is awesome, that captivated me in first episode, 12 am 1st of January 2000 Fry was freezed for 1000 years, but he was defreezed in 12 pm 31st of December 2999. So from calculus is less than 1000 years but if to calculate days will be 365242, 5 days, 1 year is equal 365, 2425 that is true because for year with 366 days, need to pass 4 years with 365 days.

But what's REALLY scary is that transposing gave the 1's complement. If you add
0101100101 to its reverse
1010011010
well, oh shit, every digits is its one-complement.
And, by the way, 1111 11 1111 is 1 short of 2-10 so it's 1023; so the complement is 1023-357=666

In animation there usually are the writers and the screen writers. Then there are the key animators who together with the screenwriters usually make the storyboard and then the keyframes. Then there are the tweeners who make all of the frames based on the keyframes.

So the reason why Bender ran way was because of the binary to decimal programming, and when that binary number was shown, he quickly turned it into decimal, and found out that it was 666 (Number of the Devil, and started screaming away from the people.

hey i come here after looking at 3brown1blue video about collision and pi, it's a very fascinating problem and i would like this problem to be covered by numberphile! i mean, 3b1b have covered it but i'm getting greedy and i want more!

What's even creepier about the binary number being reversed is that the two numbers are also the _one's complement_ of each other! Replace every 1 with a 0 and every 0 with a 1 and it's the same as reversing that number. Spooky!

I think the bender joke is very funny even if you don't understand the number. I mean, the brilliance of only the robot character indentifying it as an evil number written backwards, akin to -REDRUM- from the shining! So good.
