Im sorry but youre spreading misinformation
ADHD and ADD are the same disorder, just two different names that never coexisted. The DSM III (cir. 1980) called the disorder ADD because at the time hyperactive symptoms werent necessary for diagnosis but it was understood many people with the disorder experience hyperactive symptoms. Later in 1987, it was renamed ADHD because the diagnostic criteria changed
There are two reasons for the misconception: first, obviously there was a lot of debate to whether the presence of hyperactive symptoms and not meant they should be treated as separate disorders, therefore The two terms were used together for a while to acknowledge the debate. However, using ADD, even just to acknowledge the debate is outdated as the disorder was named ADHD in 1987, three decades before this video was released. Please, if youre going to represent yourself as a source of information, make sure your information is at least kind of up to date
Second, there ARE two subtypes of ADHD, the predominantly inattentive subtype and the predominantly hyperactive/impulsive subtype. Basically there are two sets of symptoms in ADHD and you need to present with a certain amount of either to be viable for diagnosis. For example, I am diagnosed with inattentive-type ADHD and show almost no hyperactive symptoms. Therefore its easy to see how someone of a certain age who heard ADD thrown around when they were younger would assume that because Im not hyperactive I dont have ADHD, I have ADD. but that is not correct
It may seem that Im being harsh for essentially calling you out on wording, especially when I do think you have the best intentions, but misinformation in psychology HURTS PEOPLE. Even if you have the best intentions
For example my first grade teacher referred me for a diagnosis of ADD (I dont hold it against the teacher for using the wrong term because shes a first grade teacher, nobody claims shes up to date on her psyche info) we went to my GP who looked me up and down, saw that I wasnt jumping off the walls and said I couldnt have ADHD. Basically he didnt understand that someone could be diagnosed with ADHD without the hyperactive symptoms. If he had been informed and pointed me to the right help, I could have avoided so much pain later in life. When he told my parents that there was nothing wrong with me what he was actually telling them was that all my problems were my own fault, that I had no excuse to have the trouble I was having. Obviously that hurt me a lot
So yeah, misinformation hurts people. Please check your info

AAAAAA THIS! I FEEL SO SEEN! Even when Im on my meds I cant always focus on things because my brain just refuses but my dad always assumes that Im just willfully not doing the thing. I genuinely cant focus because the meds help but they dont solve everything! Mental exhaustion is a thing I struggle with as well! If Im playing a video game but not doing homework, my dad automatically assumes that Im just willfully not doing my homework when in reality I genuinely just cant focus on my homework and Im playing the video game instead because it doesnt require as much of my attention. It also engages me differently and its much easier than my homework, meaning that I can play things like rhythm games even when I cant focus on my geometry homework or the essay Im supposed to write. A difficult rhythm game requires concentration, but it doesnt tax me as much as my homework does because its active concentration and not passive concentration if you understand what I mean. Im also on the autism spectrum (diagnosed with Aspergers at age five) and that throws a whole other wrench into everything.

I went to like 5 different therapists/ psychiatrists and suggested that I myself may have ADHD, they all say that they cannot diagnose me with it because I am no longer a child. It got to the point that I can't even explain why I live the way I am anymore. I get bored very quickly, i cannot focus on anything at all, and I am always a mess. I gave up on 3 different career paths already because they always seem so interesting at first but as soon as realised how much boring work I have to put in first in order to get to the fun part, I gave it all up. I gave up college and basically having a social life at all and I don't know what the hell is wrong with me. no one is willing to put the time to figure it out, why?

Why am i crying
I might or might not have adhd. I just searched it today because my teacher called me out Infront of my class why am i not paying attention to her lecture. I tried. But my mind just have a lot of other thoughts. I just zoned out without I'm realizing. And i can't keep my hands or feet still.
Then everything gone worse. I know I've anxiety for quite some times now. When she called me out i feel like beeing trapped in a small room. Makes me nausea and want to throw up. And i have this sudden urge to harm myself. Because in my logic, physical pain is more bearable.

3: 18 This video made me break down crying because I have been feeling like I am just a lazy irresponsible bum for quite a while now and this video confirmed to me that I am not. I have not been able to focus on my school work at all because of my ADD during this quarantine and I now I have straight F's when I used to have straight A's, and this is supposed to be my last year of school. I am still crying as I write this. Thank you so much.
Edit: I have cried for 15 minutes and every time I would watch that part again I would break down crying again.

I got adhd diagnosed at 30. Looking back it was really clear in my childhood. But because my hyperactivity is really low it was never thought of. And in the beginning I often heard you are too calm to have adhd. I also got diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. All that struggle in my early adult life made me depressed. Now with clarity, therapy and some household aid (like making sure I read my mail or make a budget) things are looking up. I'm actually on my way to become a useful citizen again. Instead of being in 100% sick leave and living of welfare.

but ADD and ADHD is not the same thing. ADD stands for Attention Deficit Disorder, ADHD is Attention Deficit/hyperactivity Disorder. ADD individuals doesn't experience the exact same symptoms, as the difference in names indicate. Other than that misinformation, I think it is great to break down some of these general myths which are often believed about the conditions. I think it would be very lovely to see more videos on ADHD and ADD thou - especially when occuring in adults. Most information available is about children

One time in elementary school my teacher called me lazy and told me if I dont stop being lazy Ill fail. I told my mom what happened and she was not happy, she then told me I have ADHD but she didnt want to tell me I had a mental disorder in elementary school. I was bullied a lot for being too energetic which I had no idea how to control because I was so young and now have depression and anxiety. If I could go back I would tell that teacher I have ADHD and its hard for me to focus.

The big myth i hear but absolutely isn't true for is we only have trouble concentrating on work. I can just as easily get hyper focus from housework, painting and fixing things. And among my friend group i was the pickiest gamer, who grew bored of playing the quickest. Same thing with movies, videos and music.
It feels like ants are biting me all over my body when I want to stop something my brain is growing distasteful for, but I do out of obligation, both work and play.

I was diagnosed as a young child. By accident my parents found that coffee in the morning not only woke me up but, helped me focus in the first part of school according to my teachers.
I feel as though it is a lable thrown on misbehaving children and everyone is on medication because the claim they have it.
I feel like my disease is down played now.
one common question you didn't address is if someone could grow out of it.

Another myths: all ADHD are hyperactive. Nope, people with the mostly inattentive (AKA ADD) can even be pretty laid back physically, but still cant focus on anything that doesnt engage them, even when wanting to and knowing they should. That is why they can even do well in school, if learning is something they take pleasure in, but be pretty disorganized.

My grades are C's and B's and people I know think that I just don't care or try hard enough because of my grades and the fact that I don't like school even though I try harder then any of them and just can't focus. Sometimes they act like I try not to pay attention in class or purposely not do my homework.

The name itself, Attention /Deficit/ (Hyperactivity) Disorder, is misleading. It's not that I can't focus, it's that I have little to no control over /what/ I focus on. This is why we can hyperfocus for long periods of time on what our brain likes, but can't switch over to something else.

Albert Einstein hated school, he found it boring and useless, he thought he should do something better with his life
We only see our limits, if we set a capacity
That quote means if you don't try to hard you can always improve, but if you try to hard, you always see the failiure

Can it be true that doing different types of learning techniques that it may help a child with ADHD? Eg. This kid has ADHD and finds it difficult to learn from a teacher while they're teaching the class but will find it easier to learn from a sheet of paper?

As someone who has been diagnosed with ADHD myself, the only thing my medication does is make me not be hyperactive, doesn't change the fact that I'm still disorganized and can't focus properly or on things that don't interest me whatsoever

I think I might have adhd but I honestly don't remember or can't tell if I've had these symptoms since before the age of 12/as a child, which I think is something important when it comes to being diagnosed, unless I've misunderstood
