Version 2: Instead of using -X- symboil to denote hospitals or police stations. Save space by using opaque coloured dots which enhance viewability. Version 1: Generally vehicles on roads make u turns, roadabouts, turn left, or turn right, or t intersection. Why not make a pocket friendly mini waterproof and tear resistant state map where the map eliminate all blank spaces of house spaces, building spaces, park spaces, etc, unit numbers, house numbers, street numbers, eliminate the last part of the street name e.g. -road- or -street- except where there are two street name which are the same e.g. -tom road-, and -tom street- then you include on the map as -tom rd-, -tom st-. Design the map of the country state in a grid layout format that can be easily printed at home. Index the street or road names with numbers on the legend (separate page), then print the legend index numbers as road lanes or grid boxes on the map. Use colour coded -X- to denote different essential services e.g. Hospital, Police. Use colour coded grid boxes on the map and on the four borders of the map to help locate the index numbers quickly e.g. E.g. A1, A2, A3. Print double sided. The road or street names are organised in alphabetical order. You can also make an offline app version, where user can use app search text box to enter their desired road name to locate the information. The offline map app can also change the colour of grid lines to demark the route between the user's current location and the destination location. This will be helpful for military, police, shtf prep, food delivery drivers, or anyone that needs a compact backup emergency cheap map. The design of an intersection on the grid map is similar to

This is a good, basic introduction. But how can I determine driving distances using Google Maps? It's nice that you can check hotels, but HOW WILL YOU KNOW WHERE TO CHECK for a hotel, IF YOU CAN'T FIND A DISTANCE AND TIME? You wind up doing DOZENS of searches, repetitively, to find out where you might be for a given time or mileage, checking on one that is too close, and then one that is too far away, and then finally finding something that matches your travel plans, all by trial and error. Now do this AGAIN FOR EACH DAY OF TRAVEL! That is a LOT of effort for something that should be simple. I want to plan a trip of 500-600 miles per day over several days. How can I break my trip down into segments, so I can PLAN where I stop for meals and hotels? With a paper map, I can do that all in 10 minutes and have my trip planned out on a daily basis, whereas with Google Maps I will still be struggling to find out how far I even got that ONE day, based on putting pins in various locations and then seeing what random numbers I come up with. And then I STILL have 5 or 6 more days to plan out.

i have somewhat of a difficult question.. when i look up directions to a certain location from another, it tells me (from the starting point) head about 2.5 miles then turn right, for 1.5 miles then turn back left (this road runs comes to a stoplight). the road I started on runs right into the same stoplight with a left hand turn lane. why would Google tell me that route instead of reamaning on orginal road & turning left at the stoplight?

If only it was that simple!! My map is covered in icons or buttons along the top for restaurants, garages, hotels, groceries etc that I don't want on my screen! I just want the map like you have !! Why can't you make a video on how to get rid of unwanted screen 'clutter'! I've tried every type of question on google but it never gives an answer. I am being dictated to by Google and I don't want to be.

You didn't tell them that when you want to do the street view that you just click on the street view man and go over to the blue street and double click for the street view. Only streets and roads with the blue during street view is street viewable. You can assume that if the road or street doesn't change to blue means the area is a private community and access is strict.

I was intimidated by Google Maps because all I knew how to do was find an address. Thank you for showing me all of these other great features. This is fantastic!

What I'd like to know is does Google maps work the same way as a satnav where it shows you exactly where you are during the journey to your chosen destination?

If you are new to Google maps why not try that street map thing. The open one... Especially since google is deleting mentions of it. osm
