Well,, that was very clearly explained and at a sensible listening pace. This HP Pavilion dm1 was my leaving present 7.5 years ago when i left my school..... nice enough wee machine but with 2Gb RAM...it was underpowered from the start... and now trying to run Win 8.1. It sounds like your old 2009 model HP....running , or crawling, at he speed of cold treacle.
I will get back to you when i have(?) installed Chrome... but since we are still in Wuhan virus lockdown Level 3 in NZ, that won't be for a couple of weeks at least as i need a 16Gb memory stick.

You could also run Peppermint OS or MX Linux and have a full operating system and massive available FOSS software to use or install Android x86 and have more flexibility/options. Check out videos by ETA PRIME, Switched to Linux, Chris Titus Tech, etc. You could have blazingly fast boot up by replacing the HDD with a cheap SSD. Just be careful with the ribbon cable that connects to the keyboard. It can be a pain on some HP models getting it hooked back up.

how is the security with this system? being google has now put the chromebooks on and end of life list. i have 5 hp chromebooks and they are now starting to get the end of life notice. i love the book but now don't want to use them because they are now not getting the security updates. security is everything. if this site keeps security on the front burner it will be worth the change

I just installed CloudReady on an Acer ES14 (2015) that had been sluggish since I bought it and even more when I installed Windows 10. Now it's running fantastic (typing on it now) and super quick compared to before. I'll be going to the shed in the morning to find some old Netbooks to try this out. Glad I found this!

I have an old laptop that I removed the hard drive from with the intention of recycling it.
Is the flash drive method only to install CloudReady to the laptop's hard drive or can I run CloudReady straight from the flash drive with no hard drive present?

You can easily get $400 for it if you sell it on eBay. There is a HUGE demand for laptops that run Windows 7. So many people hate Windows 10 that they are willing to pay crazy amounts of money for old laptops that run old Windows 7.

I'm converting a10-year-old ASUS. Has lots of RAM and big HDD. I don't need it as it's too much pain to use it as backup when I have 2 Tb external HDD on my main computer. I'm hoping it will do as well as yours.
