Beginner's Guide to Google Drive for Mac - Backup and Sync Tutorial

Learn how to use Google Drive to backup and sync your files, create files online in the cloud, and easily share and collaborate with others. This tutorial showcases the switch that Google made in May, 2018 to Backup and Sync Marcos: The way I'd like to use the Google Drive Sync feature is as follows: I use dedicated story telling software. I write primarily on my Mac desktop. When I travel, I use my laptop. When I open my dedicated story telling software on the laptop away from home, can I just go to my Google Drive, find my sync folder (where I've synced all my story telling software files), find the file I'm working on, and get to work, picking up where I left off at home? And when I return home and to my desktop, can I just go to my Google Drive, find my sync folder and continue? Thank you!

what you're saying about the files -being on your computer- is incorrect. the files on your computer are only links to the files that are online. if you do not have an internet connection then the files are not accessible (i.e. at about 15min in your video. the files on your screen are only 165 bytes). How can I access and edit those files without an internet connection? hence the only reason i would want to have a file on my computer and not not just have it stored on the internet.

Tks for the guide.
I still have a doubt. Is there a way that I can see all the files in my computer and choose the ones I want to keep just at the cloud or cloud and computer? In One Drive we can do this just right clicking the file. Can I do something like there or if the file is just on clou, I can't see it in the computer? tsk ;)

I found your tutorial very clear and helpful. However I am trying to work out how to download audio and photos which have been sent to me by two different people. I am using a Chrome browser on an imac using OS 10.12.6 I have a Google Drive but am an infrequent user. Can you point me to another video which explains how to do this. Thank you

Liked your tutorial on backup & sync. Would you offer me some additional information concerning security. If you add the files to folders in Mac Finder, are they just always open, or can they be protected by signing out of Google Drive. From what I have read online about Google Sheets, is that the files cannot be password protected.

Thanks for your tutorial. I wonder if the Google Drive app takes space on a hard disk on the computer. For example, I have a 160 GB folder on Google Drive. Is 160 GB transfer to the hard disk as soon as I activated the app on the computer? Thanks again!

Hi all
How to use multiple accounts on Backup & Sync on Mac?
On Windows clicking on the 3 dots I can choose to Add a new account, with Mac I don't have this option.
How many accounts are supported?
Can you help, please?
Thanks

Thank you for this simple guide. I have a couple questions:
1. Can we sync screenshots to our drive, like DropBox.
2. If we download Backup and Sync is there a way we can have a shortcut on the desktop and/or dock?

Start the video at around the 10 minute mark to learn about the back up and sync feature if you are already familiar with how to use Google Drive.
