Dig into the history of the Papal Schism, which caused a split in the Catholic Church while 3 popes vied for supremacy. For almost two millennia, the Pope has been a figure of supreme spiritual authority for Catholics around the world. But in the late 14th century, Catholics found themselves with not one, not two, but three popes. Where did this plethora of popes come from? And who among them was the genuine article? Jo lle Rollo-Koster shares the origins of this papal predicament. KTChamberlain: 1296? Ironically, in the movie version of Lord of the Rings Bilbo Baggins said that 1296 was a very good year, almost as old as he was at 111. Maybe he meant it was a good year in terms of wine vintage since he was referring to wine in that line. Who knows. lol

Just wait the current progressive pope passed away, the progressive faction will fight vs conservative cardinals.
They might even roll back current pope reforms.
The history will repeated again. why? because this so called pious' institution didnt teach the cure for underlying problem in the humanity. Greed, Anger, Delusion. . Its just a matter of time, lets history repeats again n again.

Greetings from Constance, location of the council. It actually took four years from 1414 to 1418 until one pope was elected. There's a statue in the harbor of Constance commemorating the prostitutes that were frequented during those years.

Interesting indeed, and I noticed the detail that the Council of Constance also condemned and burned Jan Hus to the stake for heresy. At least that detail is there. well then comes the Hussite wars and later the Protestant Reformation.

Who comes up with these animations? Sometimes I cannot pay attention to the narration because of these hypnotizing animations. I feel sorry about the narrator although they are top notch

Speaking of medieval Papacy shennanigans, You should also portray the conflict between the Pope and the Holy Roman Emperor, and their supporters: Guelphs and Ghibelines.

I was wondering why the comment section was so dry, its only been 12 mins since this video was posted. I came a bit too early, I'll come back later.

If you know even a bit about the papacy, you know what a farce that institution is. How many popes, antipopes, pope replacements there have been
