Not far from my house there used to be (until it was torn down) what was called a Gold Medallion Home, meaning it had no gas hookup, only electricity. I have never understood why that didn't catch on. All you need to carry electricity is wires. (There are health-problems associated with living too close to high-transmission lines, but those can be solved if we just have the political will to do so) And we can make safety-devices for electrifying a home that are far less susceptible to being defeated than those for natural gas. Where natural gas is being drawn out of the ground, it makes more sense (to ME) to burn it right there and turn it into electricity and then transport the electricity than it does to transport the gas to burn it somewhere else. But I suspect there is something I don't know which might explain why we don't live in a world of all-electric homes. Maybe some Replies could enlighten me.

My fiance is a fine dining chef and you will never, ever convince her that electric is superior to fire. I mean we're stuck using electric where we live, and she makes do just fine, but we both grew up on proper gas ranges and to be honest I miss it. It's a lot easier to eyeball what you're doing based on the flame height than it is trying to figure out the heat intensity from glowing metal. She solves the problem with a thermometer, which I had never even considered using before in my life until we started dating. I still eyeball it, there's just a margin of error. I'm not very good at cooking anyway. Baking is a different thing entirely because the temperature is right there on the goddamn dial. Or digital thing. Honestly it should just set a temperature on the range top. I guess it doesn't work that way though.

You know, electric stoves aren’t that safe too. It might depend on brand because if a person accidentally leaves the stove top on and forgets to turn it off, due to not being a flame present (or it turns on and off when it reaches the temperature safety point, a person could easily place their hands on the hot surface causing like at least 2nd degree burns on the hands or any surface. I remember even once when my family left our home and left the stove on because we thought it was already off and when we returned, the pot was so dam hot that it lifted the burnt leftovers that were in the pot and we couldn’t scrape off during washing. So yeah, it’s not that the appliance is not safe but it’s people

TedEd enters the gas range ban fight. Got to get em early. Go after something else for climate change initiatives. Humans are responsible for 3% of CO2 emissions annually. Gas stoves contribute, what, 1/1, 000, 000th of 1% of that 3% Get real. I'm all for polluting less. Gas ranges are not the enemy. And there's no free lunch. Electric ranges are mostly powered by fossil fuel power plants. Our focus should be on renewable energy, not Gas ranges and small engine equipment like lawnmowers and weedeaters. The climate initiative has gotten ridiculous. Which is why so many people aren't taking it seriously anymore. And that's a shame.

1: 14 - I know some people who burn wood who have a catalytic converter in the smokestack's route to get extra heat out of re-burning the exhaust gases and particulates. It's gotta be done carefully. In the early days of catalytic converters on automobiles, the intense heat build-up caused fires when people parked their cars in tall dry grass. So you don't want your catalytic converter in a smokestack to be touching anything but the brick or metal smokestack. If you put it above the roof it will still reduce air-pollution without touching anything but the smokestack, but you'll lose all the heat you could have captured.

Electric stoves take longer to cook food, abd their temperature can't be adjusted. Modern day gas stoves are completely safe to use. They have zero impact on the environment. Banning gas stoves have put thousands of small businesses, out of business. The Electric stoves are costly and don't provide the heat needed for certain restaurants needs. Like cooking pizza or chinese food.
Please don't allow climate alarmist to cloud your judgment. Educate yourself so you're not taken advantage of by political messaging.
Avocados are dangerous though.

This video is made in partnership with Speed&Scale, an org owned by many venture capitalists and stock investors constantly pushing the liberal propaganda that individual cause can save us from climate change and Ted-Ed a liberal media will blame anything and everything other than their very own capitalist system that got us in this shthole.

One thing to be noted: there's a different taste to cooking with induction stoves
You can only use cast iron, carbon steel and stainless steel cookware, because copper and aluminum can't run the current through them.
I think the main thing is you aren't getting direct heat to the pan. The metal is vibrating, so the food cooks differently.

CO2 is not toxic or a pollutant. It's essential for all life on the surface of the Earth. Our CO2 level is dangerously low at just 0. 04% atmospheric concentration. Ideally, we should all be doing our part to dramatically increase our CO2 output, since plants grow fastest at 1. 2% CO2, which is 30 times our current atmospheric level.

I switched from electric to gas cos electricity is unreliable in my country and gas is both cheap and portable.
I am happy to continue cos my personal carbon footprint isn't the cause of climate change. And trying to make me feel guilty about it under the guise of an educational science video is both childish and propagandist.

Impressive representations and use of animations. I have been trying to replicate the same but never succeeded. I would love to say thank you to the Animation Directors for the impressive and engaging informative videos. It would be a great help if you people can conduct some online workshops and training sessions to help us.

Really appreciate the time that goes into the stop-motion and I have to admit it looks really good. But is it just me who couldn't focus on what he was saying because of how extremely busy and jittery the animation was and all of the sound effects and background music Was a bit too fast for a video explaining stuff I think

4: 00 - Iron Man was over at Superman's house for a hamburger feast. Hey Rusty, said The Man Of Steel. I've got this new induction-stove, and it can't burn the user. It only heats the pots and pans. So they both touched it, to prove the point, and both went to the hospital with third-degree burns.

Electric stoves are even worse pollutants than the gas ones. Most of the electricity comes from burning fossil fuels. Than you have to add the losses of energy and by using electric stove you end up producing more greenhouse gasses. They would only make sense if electricity is made purely from renewables

After factoring the large areas dedicated to crops and cattle, subject to deforestation, the amount of green house gases emitted by burning fossil fuels, the risks to health created by hazardous chemicals used on farms etc, we can come to a simple solution: we should stop eating!

Can’t wait for TED-Ed 50 years from now when a scientist discovers that magnetic induction ranges actually cause severe medical issues on a microscopic level. The point Nothing is 100% safe. Learning to live with some risk is better than attempting to live with none.

I go above and beyond to recycle, only buy local, reduced meat consumption, if possible I buy second hand and absolutely won’t buy fast fashion, am very conscious about energy efficiency at my house. but I won’t give up my gas stove, I don’t like electric

I ate avocados before they even became trendy and still do. Never once hurt myself. I use a paring knife that has a serrated edge and round tip. It looks cheap (and is cheap) with a plastic handle but cuts so well which is more important than how it looks.

I know it's bad for me and the environment, but I love my gas stove. It's far superior to electric imo it heats up faster and cools down faster after you're done with it.
Induction might be better but I haven't had the chance to work with one so idk

I have a Induction stove top, it is very fast to reach cooking tempatratur, but yes you will need to use cooking pots and pans that have a high iron conten like ferromagnetic materials. Either it contains iron or has a layer with magnetic properties.
