In February of 1942, Mexican farmer Dionisio Pulido thought he heard thunder coming from his cornfield. However, the sound wasnt coming from the sky. The source was a large, smoking crack emitting gas and ejecting rocks, and would come to be known as the volcano Paricutin. Where do new volcanoes like this come from, and what triggers their unpredictable eruption? Steven Anderson investigates. Lesson by Steven Anderson, directed by Cabong Studios

For the first time, this didnt answer my question. This fails to address dormant volcanoes. This is really more of how new volcanoes form, but not how dormant volcanoes can reactivate. What would make Mt St Helens or Vesuvius or Mt Fuji erupt again? What has been making Kilauea and Soufriere Hills continue to erupt?

I had the impression that volcanoes are very old or extremely old. I'm surprised to learn that there exists a volcano that is younger than many people who are still alive.

Isn't it possible to watch a 5-min educational video without being presented a highly stereotyped Mexican? There is no good reason for that Mexican farmer to look like that.
