Discover the world s largest organism: Pando, an enormous and ancient quaking aspen, and find out how it became so huge. The largest animal in the world is the blue whale, which weighs a massive 150 metric tons. Even so, it s not remotely close to being the largest organism by weight. That title goes to an organism so huge that it s estimated to weigh the equivalent of 40 blue whales. So what is this behemoth? And where is it? Alex Rosenthal shares the story of the enormous and ancient Pando

what's odd is that if it's indeed the same pando as from long ago, why haven't a type of parasite/ vermin/ insect adapted to destroy that species? They would've had thousands of years to do it. A species with a lot of biomass that doesn't evolve should inevitably by outcontested by other species, changing climate/ circumstances and creatures that adapt to attack them

This is the reason why GMO makes no sence at all. Because no scientist knows, even with genetics at hand, how old this plant really is. And no scientist really knows all about genetics. And no scientist knows what will happen to the GMO-modified plants nowadays and in future times. This is an unpredictable risk. Not only for the plant and nature.

Always finding newer ways to fight war.
That hit hard. I also believe in keeping the weapons to deflect asteroids or any future global danger. (BTW we cannot deflect even medium-sized asteroids with all of our nukes.

Thanks Ted Ed, I'll just move my chair to a corner now.

If we separate the trees, will some of them die? Cause I feel like it s not a single entity if they can live separately. Some animals can separate if cut but we d consider them 2 entities at that point

Fought wars, domesticated animals, fought wars, created nations, made inventions and the internet, and made more ways to fight wars. Is very accurate to humans

Why not sell Pando saplings to sponsors or, better yet, why don't we grant Pando sovereignty, property owning status, and guardianship by a responsible entity?

A tale as old as time, something beat the odds to survive for generations, millennia, only to be threatened by humans aka the parasites of Earth.
