The Real Vikings Behind Characters In 'Valhalla'

Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
Vikings told the story of Ragnar Lothbrok, his first wife, Lagertha, and a host of other notable Scandinavians who lived, worked, and fought their way through the earliest part of the so-called Viking Age. The show depicted real men, women, and children with a mix of historical truth and fictional fodder through six seasons - but it only scratched the surface of the fascinating world of the Vikings

Great shows for sure! That said, none of them are very close to historically accurate. I dont mean little things either.
Vikings: Ragnar and Rollo lived nearly 200 years apart.
Last Kingdom: nearly everything to do with the Mercians. Especially Aethelred.
It puzzles me why film studios butcher the actual history for added drama. The real stories are actually more amazing than the shows.
Please dont think Im being prudish about it though. Their all amazing shows with a good deal of true history.

Noo dont compare the series Vikings with the real deal. That seriously sucked camel balls. But as you say its only the names. As a historical nerd, that serie was so cringing trying to watch. The only remote historical accurate was their jewelry. But mostly in the wrong place and on the wrong person. Especially with the brooches. My poor brain boiled I couldnt finish watching the first season.

So what? Leiv Erikson set foot on North America but then ran like a scared rabbit when the natives started kicking their behinds. They didn't establish anything near the prominence of what came from Spain. No trade routes. That is why his coming is irrelevant and not comparable to Cristoforo Colombo.

Ragnar is my spirit animal. I am growing my hair like his and already have a mighty red beard with gray streaks here, there, over there, behind here, don't forget here.
Put an axe in one hand and a sword in the other, call me Viking. Time to R. P. K. and not in that particular order.

I will always question the accuracy of a television show that uses a word to name it, that these people they speak of never actually used themselves.
Valhall A indeed.
Constraints of this platform negate my ability to tell you what to do with your Haakon Jarl.

freydis actually killed her brothers, most likely framed to take power with the help of her powerful husband. the 5 women mentioned she orderd killed but the men refused to kill unarmed women, or so it is said. so she asked for an axe and killed them herself

If any of Y'all like Vikings, I highly recommend checking out the anime and manga Vinland Saga. It takes place during the life of Cnut. While it's definitely not 100% historically accurate, the author takes great pride in representing the time period.

You forgot the expedition of Igzaks the Budderfield to the land Down under. He met with a tribe of Indian hawkers and traded tadpoles for booty. Thus creating a new race of Buttsmans. Midic stankz was the ruler of this land

Do a video on the Kee Bird. The b-29 that was forced to land in Greenland, and was in good enough shape to be flown out under its own power almost 50 years later. but caught fire during takeoff.

I've studied this stuff for years and a lot of these ideas are new to me, but the format of the video is really confusing, it feels like it's commenting on several different books very quickly.

My God i can't remember even a single name. No doubt Vikings were great warriors who fought and conquered vast territories. I loved their series Vikings. Looking forward to Vikings Valhalla.

Hollywood running out of blondes and gingers or did they just paid no attention at all to the sometimes quite old depictions and descriptions of viking age anglos and scandinavians?
reply

My veterinarian said the reason there are so many blonds in Scandinavia and so many people with bad teeth in England because the Vikings took all the pretty women with them

I think, that when making a grand, expensive production like Vikings. That it should be 100% historically correct.

Cnut centralized a lot of power on himself, which is why it all fell apart immediately after he died. I'd call that many things, great isn't one of them.

i like the treatment of these characters on VINLAND SAGA, checked all these vikings media for the manga, i love comparing the fiction to actual history

Finally a video about my heritage. I always wondered why i yearned to steal and. other stuff whenever i traveled to England as a kid.

I would hate to have been in school and learn about Cnut, my dyslexia would have CRAPPED all over that mans name.
