On the one hand, the series is the brainchild of Drew Goddard, who I've been a huge fan of since I saw Cloverfield in theatres. On the other hand, the other executive producer is Steve S. Deknight, who I blame partly for the grim fates of Angel and Dollhouse. I'm also bummed that the series' music composer is a no-name with nothing but trash in their resume. That being said, the series cinematographer is actually a promising newcomer who might bring the kinetic flashiness this series will desperately need. Still, my bigger concern is that the series will forget to bother with even a molecule of Murdock's lovable charm and smother it in angst. No thanks.
I definitely will be waiting for a verdict from trusted critics on this, rather than diving right in. That said, it's actually probably still the only reason I have a Netflix subscription right now so. I guess I'm hopeful. I love Charlie Cox and if he's as good in this as he was on Boardwalk Empire, I'll be interested and if Kingpin is as complex as he is promised to be, I'll definitely have to watch. But I'm not holding my breath.

Personally? I think the costume's okay. to start off with. I mean, think about it, he just up and decides to go black and red on his first night out? If he gets that costume later on in his career, or if the series itself ENDS with him wearing the official costume, I think that would be a wise move. But I do have hope for this series, and the decisions made concerning it. And Nerd? That last bit about 'stuffing' it with continuity, I think they'll do the same amount as they do with a feature-length film, but spread it out over the show's run, so it's like we experience a meal instead of being force-fed. And nice comparison to Zatoichi. But what about the 1-Armed Swordsman?

After watching Daredevil, Netflix hit it out of the PARK.
Kingpin was amazing, Hell's Kitchen was so dirty and grimy (and they had the perfect explanation why the now respectable portion of New York is a shit hole again, half of it was leveled by the battle in the Avengers, there was questions of who is the good and who is the evil in this city, and how thin that line can be. Murdok's partner, who only appeared to exist to provide comic relief, turned into a three dimensional character. It felt like real people living in the shadow of the supernatural, living with the consequences, with hints of the strange coming for Hell's Kitchen.

I think there should be a smooth transition of leading to the broader expansion of universe, probably after the third or fourth season you start hinting to the expanded universe, similarly to how The Arrow did with The Flash when they brought in Barry Allen and started the crossover of the two characters. Now what do you think of the Punisher and Venom being bootlegged? Great stories that could become it's own thing or just fan based ideas on who these characters are at their core?

I personally haven't had that much experience with Dare Devil as a whole. I remember the first time I heard of him was when I was a kid, and he had an animated crossover with Spiderman. As far as the movie goes I haven't seen it in years, so I don't really have a current opinion about it. As for the series on Netflix, I'm still more interested in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, because honestly that show is great.

You were wrong, which is good, for the most part. Fisk being betrayed by his emotional self kind flew in the face of the character, but there are enough menacing scenes and memorable side villains to make up for his D'onofrio's writing. He did good with what he got.
Also the showers and clothes burning happened about 3times in the season for me. And I really loved that Punisher t-shirt.

All I'll say is this;
It's surprising that so many people, including me, are hyped for this show, when all the on screen incarnations of daredevil we know, aren't so good. And the fact that daredevil never really did anything too major in the comics. I mean, his arch nemesis Kingpin, wasn't even his own enemy to begin with. Kingpin was a Spider-Man villain, first.

reply

I didn't know the entire daredevil season would be posted in one shot. That essentially makes into a 5 hour long movie, I don't know if that will help the series.
Duuude, however it turns out you should TOTALLY do a review of the series cosplaying as the kingpin. Like, go all out, the suit, cigar, and the diamond cane and do an angry rant, EPIC.

Angry nerd, you seem to respond to our comments a lot.
First off, thanks. Your opinions are great.
Secondly, have you ever been going through the comments and remember seeing that same person from the last video commentary section? And if so, have you ever gotten to a point where you search for someone's specific comment?

Daredevil, the theatrical cut, was average. The director's cut in a major improvement, but even at that, the movie wasn't -terrible-. It was pretty accurate to the comic books, if you nerds really want to argue. Violent and dark, too. I'm noticing that every Marvel property pre-200 Iron Man has been labeled a -failure-.
