my friends has talents in making good melody but i dont. but i do think they lacking of varieties in chords, so i always reharmonize their songs.
for example these are the chords my friend use for the first line (only) in one of his song in c major
- C - C - Dm - G -
and i change to
- C - CM7 - Dm - Fm6 -
i dont know why im writing this, since u cant hear the melody, i dont know if it make sense, but i can say my reharmonization goes pretty cool with the melody.
but half of the time, my friends like to stick with the original chords. they said they like it simple, while my chord progressions are too emotional they said. well, i guess its really a subjective matter.

Pedal wise, no question about the right pedal, it lifts the dampers off the strings and lets them ring out. The left pedal, I believe, I've seen do two things, either lift the hammers closer to the strings, or shift all the hammers so they only hit one or two of the strings. The middle pedal I've seen either suspend the lower half of the keyboard, stopping at A3 or something, or it only suspends notes that are being played as the pedal is pressed and leaves all others alone. It kinda accomplishes the same thing either way, but the latter method works a little bit better for it.

Disclammer: This is just my theory!
About the question about the difference between black and white keys, there is no difference between the notes, the intervals are the same between B and C, C and C# etc. But if all notes would have been white keys, first of all, how would you find specific notes? There is nothing to recognize and you wouldnt be able to find C4 even. Secondly, chords would be so spread out that few would even be able to play a simple major chord, and we can basically forget about 7th.

13: 48 I think, music theory within songwriting is like drawing. You can draw a Picture with only a tube of yellow, blue and red paint. It would be like writing a song without knowing much music theory. If you have a great knowledge of music theory you already have a bunch of different colours. Wheras if you don't know anything you just take the colours you have and mix the colour you want to have. At the end you have the similar thing, it might just took you longer.

A genius but not a good educator. Answers are tangential and impulsive, trending toward what he finds interesting and amusing, rather than what will be most empowering to beginners. He can only pretend the -rules- don't matter because he has very thoroughly internalized them and how to bend them. Music theory may be followed and broken however you like, but if you never learn these structures you will have no control over your own expression.

Everyone knows that D minor is the saddest key. I don't know why, but it makes people weep instantly. It's used especially well in an underrated piece most people don't think of off the top of their heads - just simple lines intertwining, really influenced by Mozart and Bach. It's sort of in between those, really, it's like a Mach piece. Of course, I am referring to the highly acclaimed -Lick My Love Pump-.

The different key sounding different thing is actually mostly due to different notes having different timbres. It's like how playing in a different octave sounds different. Especially true with singing which is why picking the best key for you is more important than trying to hit the original key.

But if he gets his own show, he needs a better camera/editing team. The nonsensical switching of frames is painful for those of us who are highly sensitive (presumably a lot of people, given the audience for this is mostly musicians. Until then, I'll be listening, not watching.

I'd call the 2nd mode of the Major Pentatonic a Suspended Pentatonic.
1st: Major Pentatonic
2nd: Suspended Pentatonic
3rd: Man Gong
4th: Ritusen
5th: Minor Pentatonic
The sound or device function is more important than the name.

the black keys are laid out to match the circle of 5ths. Ascending keys C, G, D, A, E, B add a sharp on each step in a pattern 1, 5, 2, 4, 3 where 1-5 is F#, C#, G#, D#, A#.
If you descend, then you add flats as 5, 1, 4, 2, 3. It's very symmetric.
