I bet there wont be real players, it will be AI characters run in a simulator more like fantasy football. And all the characters will be able to communicate to a billion people simultaneously, while at the same time being the same game so that real friends can enjoy it together.
The AI game probably will get a random seed from real life events, so that we will feel that it is rooted in something more than just computers. - In either case we won't be able to tell the difference visually or otherwise.
