Creating Scarlett Johansson's Computer-Generated Body Suit - Ghost in the Shell - Design FX
video description
Last night I saw Ghost in the shell, and it reminded me a lot of Bladerunner and not just aesthetically. The deeper more complex questions of what it means to be human and where are we heading a species. I loved it.

I was convinced it was practical given that in parts of the final fight it looks like Johansson is nearly wearing a fat suit. If it was all CG to begin with, why are the proportions so off? She looks slimmer when she's wearing regular clothes. When visuals are really all your movie has, it's not a great idea to have people laughing in the cinema at how ridiculous you've made your lead actor look.

The movie was great but it didn't rise up to the original's heights, especially with the baddies. In the original, the antagonist is an AI born in the great sea of information, aka a government developed tool that becomes self aware and goes rogue. In the movie it's a failed transhumanist project. It's fine but it's not the same.

Uhhhh, sorry, but all that exceptional CGI work boiled down to action that seemed to end up as a blurry mess of jump cuts and extraordinarily annoying slo-mo flips, which I got tired of fairly quickly. A good movie is engaging and incites feeling and emotion from the audience. This one, well, not so much. nice eye-candy, though!

When i watch this kind of stuff, i realize that i'm still a NOOB with the CGI, no matter if i've achieved photorealism, i feel tiny against this, lol.
BTW, i use Blender, and yeah, it's as good as the big 3 (Maya, Cinema 4D and Autodesk3D)

Loved Scar Jo in this and thought it was a great sci-fi action flick. I don't really compare it to the anime because the anime is good for its reasons and the live action movie is good for other reasons, mainly Scar Jo.

It's interesting that the video is about the special effects in general, but the title only mentions the body suit part because that's what gets the views. A bit of a clickbait in a way
