Astrophysicist Janna Levin, PhD, is asked to explain black holes to 5 different people; a child, a teen, a college student, a grad student, and an expert. Special thanks to our host Janna Levin who-s literally written the book on black holes -Black Hole Survival Guide- more science and space insights

Before I watch the video, I think that black holes are pretty much planets with a high gravity. Even if my gr 9 science teacher talks about the radius becoming 0.
The black hole is so dense that the light around it can't escape (which doesn't make sence because I was told that light doesn't have weight. Anyways, this creates a false size because it creates a fake barrier of the real thing.
That might make the size of the black hole different while the event horizon changes depending on the mass.
The reason why this is so basic is because I feel like some scientists are overthinking black holes.

Interesting Experiment: What happens if we throw a massless Probe into the event horizon using connected to a rocket with infinite thrust by an unbreakable cable, will we be able to receive any data through the cable or they are also stuck. Can we pull the Probe bake out?

It's hilarious how to the first kid she just gives up the easy explaination halfway through: -do you know what density is-. --15 sec later-- -. when a star is massive enough to go supernova it's core continues to collapse onto itself. - lol

Level 1: Density of the Black Hole
Level 2: How Is Black Hole Compared to Stars
Level 3: Black Hole And It Science
Level 4: Cosmological Interpretation Regarding What Black Holes Actually Is
Level 5: The Mass Of The Universe

I think these conversations would be even better if each level got to remain for the preceding conversation and given two questions to interrupt to understand a concept above their level they'd like to wrap their minds around.

pls dont make a black hole in a lab lol. also if you make a mini black hole, even if its small, you wont be able to change its property, right. also i dont think we able to make a mini black hole to be observe in a lab.

Theres no way she decided that even mentioning the word thermonuclear was appropriate at the child level! Her idea of a child's capacity to understand complex concepts is insane, its like a compliment to the little girl haha

As a 26 yr old, i honestly learned something at every level of difficulty. The expert is really really well spoken. I wish my teacher in high school was able to be this informative in their lessons

Discussing things on different levels is one of the most underrated skills out there. Also the ability to recognize which of those levels you should use on particular people is a hard skill.

I knew everything she was saying until the grad student and even then I knew a couple things, but then the expert conversation sounds like it's going off topic even though it's not.
