I think i know what's going on with the light now and its the arathi that is causing the light bloom.
Hear me out okay if we paladins on surface believe in the light then the light intention is to be justice when its needed, bring order to choas and brings those to the light too however the arathi believes in wrath and being harsh and etc so what happens when you have 2 side conflicting It bing unbalanced and atm the wrath side is winning and is affecting current paladins state of mind and etc so I'm my eye the arathi are going to be our new enemies as they want to return and destroy all those that aren't human and believe in the light which will upset the good side of the light.

The Xal'atath storyline reminds me of Superman from Injustice 2. Batman didn't want to trust Superman again, but needed Superman to stop Braniac. And when Braniac was ultimately defeated, Superman trued to defeat Batman and take over again.
