A NARRATIVE OF A REVOLUTIONARY SOLDIER by Joseph Plumb Martin - FULL AudioBook Step back in time to a tougher, harder setting of life and experience firsthand the timeless courage, hard suffering and stubborn sense of freedom and human dignity that allowed the seeds of American democracy to take root, and the innocent obedience to authority, the playfulness and the goodness of agrarian youth who enjoyed friendship, adventure and mischief amidst the long hardship, pain and death of the cruel civil war and fight against a foreign oppression and humiliation that was the American revolution.
In listening to Joseph Plumb Martins account of his day to day life as soldier in the Continental Army you will learn the major military events, and the scenes behind the events, of the American Revolution, and you will feel deeply the suffering and sacrifice of so many youths and appreciate what they accomplished: the beginning of a major liberation of humanity that has spread around the world ever since.
These simple but wise and true and natural youth took the world to a whole new level. There is no trace of them now - of their friendships and broken bodies, their hopes and dreams, their tears and laughter, except the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness they bought for all the generations after them and the wave of creativity and universal love that goes on expanding from these today. We should remember and bless them, and be grateful for the precious blessings that came through them which we now take for granted.
Barry Eads voice is just right for the reading of a youths diary. Great service!

JPM would be most shocked and surprised to know that the US military was screwing soldiers out of their re-enlistment bonuses while at war 240 yrs later - BREAKING their side of the contract while still holding the soldiers to the letter and spirit of military law with no legal alternatives. I don't know if they ever did get the money OWED them.

51, 000 views, (9-21) TBH I'm surprised that many people have read this. Myself, it took several (8-9) visits to this video to complete it. I suspect the real number of persons who took the time to review actual history is around 4 or 6 thousand.
Hail to the ones who really want to know.

A great true story with excellent writing, not bad narration, but I wish the narrator had more contrast in tone to correspond with the occurring events. The reading of the battle scenes should have been more dramatic, ala Dan Carlin's style.

Fascinating account of the everyday life of soldiers who fought in the war. Interesting that the vast majority of it is simply about trying to find food, drink and shelter, with the combat almost an infrequent side show

1: 00: 00 point, the guy dies as he lays down to drink water. I'm confused if he died bc he drank too much water too fast. Or is it bc he was so weak, sick and he just died from starvation and dehydration

I have this book but never have time to read it, I've wished that there was an audio book version and was pleased to discover this. If Audible had it, I'd have bought it but I'll listen here.

Was it Napoleon that said An army marches on its stomach. Know the officers had plenty to eat. Washington should have been shot back then. Freemason deists.

The history of our country should be taught in this fashion. The human connection would appeal to children and bring life to the dead past.

As a soldier from the modern day I can say with great accuracy, dietary distress is still an ever present concern whilst on campaign (deployed)

The preface is splendid in it's performance of what normally is an utility. Outstanding! Now eagerly ready to absorb the work itself.
