Sense & Sensibility by Jane Austen - FULL audiobook A great pity that this reading is spoiled by the narrator's constant and inexplicable mispronounciation of Marianne as Mary Anne. Austen chose her names carefully. Her choice of a non traditional romantic name, such as Marianne, is deliberately chosen to make us think about the character. Changing it to Mary Anne takes away from what Austen is saying to us and is completely wrong.

Austen's style is underdeveloped here compared with her later works, but her understanding of character is unparalleled. When Willoughby complains about Brandon's extravagance and wealth early on, we don't yet understand his bitterness and fear concerning his own prospects, nor how it will guide his actions towards Marianne.

It's so amazing to note how much younger people used to get settled. Saying that a woman of 27 should not find anything attractive in a man of 35! wow! I'm glad we live longer now days

I love how Marianne's opinion of anyone past 35 might as well be dead since they're too old to feel things. there's no hope for 34 year old me with arthritis.
