The history of Mankind from Beginnings to Fall and then Rise again was so prescient of the current theories of Ancient Civilizations and the fates of Atlantis and Lemuria, that I'm in awe of the wonderful mind of Robert Howard! I think Storytelling Genius wouldn't be too high a praise just for that Introduction!
As to the rest of the stories, they are the usual mix of good and great!
I do wonder at how RH. got away with so much 'Nude' & 'Naked' lithe, young girls & boys, lithe young women whose short, form-fitting and diaphanous dresses seem to be the Only choice of female attire! Not forgetting the men, who seem to mostly be 'Naked', apart from a loincloth!
But it's likely these Adult themes were one of the reasons his Stories were so popular!
In a way, I'm kind of glad to have these Tales told in the innocence of the times, as a similar story today would most likely be written to meet the modern taste for mainstream 'erotic' fiction! And be all the worse for that!
Like many early C. 20th writings, there are words, phrases and sentences which would fall foul of late C20th & current C21st morals & censorship, but I'd like to think RH. just used the adjectives available at the time & which his readership would more easily understand.
I don't think he's using such words in any kind of derogatory way. .
Perhaps I'm just being naive, and the 'original stories' were actually very offensive! Though I did read these types of Adventure stories in my childhood [late 60s]
If that was the case, I'm grateful to the producers of this Conan Audiobook compendium for an excellent job of making these tales available in such a fun, exaggerated way.
Thanks also to the Narrator for a job well done!

This is the original hero from the author that created the sword and sorcery genre! These tales are epic and impressive, with amazing images and characters.
The only problem is the narrator. The narration is technically good, you will have no trouble listening or understanding the voice. But the voice of the narrator is almost entirely void of any emotion, and that is the problem. He could be reading dictionary or a technical manual, and that does no credit to these epic stories. The stories of Conan or Solomon Kane or Kull of Atlantis are supposed to be read aloud with emotion and feeling, with tone and cadence, not like someone is reading a laundry list! If you are looking for a really enjoyable audio reading of these stories and books, I would suggest trying elsewhere. The bland, emotionless voice of the narrator detracts from the effect of the amazing stories.

Fun fact: A lesser known poem by Howard consisted solely of the words tawny, thew and lapis lazuli repeated over and over and over and over.
In all seriousness, as good as Howard was at making up stories, he was not a talented wordsmith. Every character speaks with Howard's narrative voice with superfluously difficult language. It's a bit painful to listen to, but the stories might make it worth the effort.
Update: nope, I'm out. I could tolerate the limited and repetitive vocabulary, but much as I understand it's a product of his time, Howard's misogyny and racism are just too much. Off to Steinbeck and Hardy. who incidentally predate him yet manage to write without bigotry and FAR more competently.

I keep thinking the stories are taking a Lovecraftian turn. I think it's clear from Tower of the Elephant that he read Lovecraft, but then later on, Shadows in the Moonlight, a destroyed, empty city, built with giant cyclopean green stone blocks, you really don't expect it to be humans, but aliens.

This series is one of the best representations of Conan I have heard. My brother has many original Conan books. Crom. He gives you life and free will. He cares not what you do. That is Conan’s god.

Why did you start with him as a young man as in Robert E Howard's first Conan. This is confusing to new readers or listeners. I'm disappointed. I've read the original 12 books a few times

1: 41: 10 Epemitreus speaks exactly like Deckard Cain in this rendering, and something tells me that whoever wrote Deckard Cain's lines in 1996 knew of Epemitreus

Most all fiction writings have a history line. Example: Star Trek, Star Wars, all JRR Tolkien. All J. K. Rolling Harry Potter. War Hammer. Etc.
