Is a ex convict & someone that grew up in ol school Chicago, I can say that -First Time Felon- is the most accurate -Jail- movie of all time! -Felon- is the most accurate -Prison- movie of all time (Val Killer was Oscar worthy in that film I thought he was my actual celly watchin him in that movie he gave me straight flashbacks like i was in there wit him) & -Dog Pound- is the most accurate -Gladiator School- movie of all time thos kids were very on point too!
My favorite tho other than those ones is definitely -Lockdown- it's not the most realistic but it's the most entertaining prison movie of all time it has basically everything u could think of to put in one prison film even if most are cliched ASF but its still pretty accurate & it's actually a fun one to watch over & over even if u been locked up before!
All the others on this list are enjoyable but way too damn Hollywood! U can't really make a list of top ten prison films unless u actually been locked down before so i don't expect most ppl to agree with me!
Also the prison scenes in the Jeffy Dahmer show were also on point probably the most accurate wit all the lil details!
I ain't seen Shot Caller yet but i heard it was pretty good
& where is -Bronson- at? Why ain't this on the list? The movie was a true story & a masterpiece & hilarious &Tom Hardys best movie -

American Me and Blood In Blood Out are different but related. The whole Hollywood thing where duplicate scripts get shopped around & one gets rushed over the other. American Me may have had more star power but Blood In Blood Out based on poet Jimmy Santiago Baca's memoir may have more street cred (he's in the film. But LaEme (Mexican Mafia) was insulted by American Me & several people associated w the film were killed. Last Castle was good, the military angle is seldom seen. Shot Caller was good, the specifics of how he got so far are dubious but once he gets in its realistic to the system but its dramatized over the reality of being ID'ed as a shot caller. Some left out are Cool Hand Luke, Birdman of Alcatraz, Starred Up, and Bronson is some crazy sh-t. And what no Women in Cages drive-in flick soft porn? And that voice is computer generated?

Two out the top three consensus Prison Movies are written by non other than Stephen King. Crazy how people think he can still only write horror when Shawshank is one of the highest regarded movies of all time. King is just an amazing character writer IMO. Underrated storyteller. Horror is just secondary to me, regarding his talent.

One thing about jails and prison - just aboit everyone else is much bigger and stronger than you (if you are average and not one of them. There doesnt seem to be many short, small, thin, weak guys. Which astounds me since you get no sleep and the food is little and it sucks.

Short summarization for two top prison movies:
- If you into heavy gangster actions level 999 you should watch: Shot Caller
- If you into deep emotional drama that will test all of your humanity you should watch: The Green Mile

There must be good old prison movies. But maybe the prison parts were only a small part. What about -The Birdman of Alcatraz- starring Burt Lancaster?

My favorite is The Shawshank Redemption! I-m glad that one hit #1. Best prison movie ever and my third favorite movie of all time!

Dog pound was excellent. Probably my favorite. I watched it in my late teens and could relate to all the struggles those boys faced
