Imagine pretending a movie as awful as the king is a good medieval movie.
Ridiculous modern philosophical concepts. A French princess ranting about all monarchy being illegitimate -
Laughable manipulation plot when it-s well noted Henry wanted to invade France before he even got on the throne.
Terrible depiction of the battle of Agincourt.
The only semi decent thing in the movie was the duel that didn-t really happen at the beginning between Henry and Percy. Everything else was just a load of modern nonsense injected into a historical event. -Oh war is a grim thing. - -Oh you got manipulated to war- -oh a guy who just won a major victory an regained a ton of land Richard II lost is a easily riled boy according to a -illegitimate- princess-. That movie was complete ass -
I mean if seeing armor and swords is what you-re watching it for. You may get something. If the slightest, remotest hint of authenticity to the period, events or even people are what you-re after. You-ll find absolutely none of it in the king.

Braveheart is so historically inaccurate I'm amazed it's even taken seriously. It's nothing but the story's of Spartacus and Queen Boudicca slapped together, with William Wallace name attached.
1. The Adventures of Robin Hood
2. The Holy Grail
3. The Seventh Seal
4. The Lion in Winter
5. Beckett

Braveheart should not be on this list at all. It's wildly inaccurate and paints the Scots as backward savages, which they were not. Outlaw King is a far more accurate film. And Seventh Seal easily beats Braveheart for cinematic value. I'm surprised Excalibur isn't in the top five.

Well, I am for The Name Of The Rose, Becket, Lion in winter and Seventh Seal, but there are lots of masterpieces not mentioned and far more realistic, such as Andrei Rublev and Marketa Lazarova. Also, Kurosawa movies like Throne Of Blood and Ran happen in Japan in the same period.
reply

I agree with your choices except that i think Outlaw King should have been on the list not just honorable mention, it was more accurate than Braveheart, don't get me wrong I loved Braveheart even with all the errors(historical)

Ironclad, 1, &2, capture the spirit, & authenticity, also, Black death, with sean Bean. Superb acting, direction, et al. If you love this, genre, & haven't seen, the, aforementioned, & are,
seriously. Missing out!

Atleast you could have given a mention for The Physician (2013. all of these are medieval war movies. the physician also speaks about the hardships in the development of medical science.
reply

so you wanna convince me that the most inaccurate movie is number one while kingdom of heaven is number 10?
whoever made this has definetly a frog instead of bloody brain.

Excalibur is my favorite medieval drama (Monty Python and the Holy Grail resides in a different catagory for me) I even love the odd sound editing of Excalibur.
reply

Where is Jeanne D-Arc, Gladiator etc? Just to seem sophisticated you put some really old movies but missed out many many good medieval movies which is sad.
reply

Kingdom of Heaven deserved a far better fate. Braveheart is tripe. Honourable mention to the original Robin hood with Errol Flynn.
reply

The remake of The Lion in Winter starting Sir Patrick Stewart & Glenn Close is worth mentioning as well.
reply

Robin and Marian. The final sword fight between the sheriff and Robin is the most realistic I've seen.
reply

Kingdom of Heaven directors cut is the best followed by Arn and Braveheart is an a travesty of a film.
