Couples Therapist Reviews Romantic Comedies

A couples therapist gives her diagnosis of some of cinemas most iconic romantic comedy pairings My: It makes me happy that she talked about ways in which people can recover from and stay together after conflict while also acknowledging that is not always the case. Often, the media paints this picture that couples that are meant to be together will not fight and everything will always be wonderful. It is nice to recognize the hard times too, and discuss ways to move past them without loosing the people in our lives.

BUZZFEED, Can you do a series of this?
I Loved watching RomComs growing up
( 90s + 00s ones to be specific)
And would Love to hear a Professionals healthy take on the dynamics in those films
Its so interesting!
Also for tv series like The Mindy Project & New Girl Where a RomCom theme ran heavily throughout each series (which i loved to watch) Parks & Recreation characters & The Office etc etc etc

It's interesting seeing someone with this kind of professional experience go blind into some of these films. I'd think The Big Sick was medium too if I didn't already know that Kumail Nanjiani and his wife wrote that screenplay about their own relationship!

In Love Actually- That you made a fool of my life comment was gutting and always stuck with me. Which made me think of infidelities as even more hurtful.
Side note, I remember the director/writer? confirming that yes they did indeed stay together.

Funny thing about watching her give The Big Sick a mixed rating is that its actually based on Kumail Nanjianis real life relationship and the two of them are still married to this day.
reply

Her reviews are very insightful, but I think she needs to watch the movies in their entirety. I'm not a therapist, and even I know that therapists need as much context as possible.
reply

They need to do After. No one (or at least those with a bigger platform) has talked about how utterly TOXIC that relationship is. Its going to be the new Twilight but worse

Theres alot more romantic comedy movies/ tv series she can review and some are not in English. please make more reviews I'm curious as to what you think of them.
reply

The Big Sick is based on Kumail Nanjiani's real life, so it's funny to hear her say that it might not make it. It did make it, heheh. They are married now.

Is it just me or is her voice super soothing? I would feel calmer in therapy just listening to her talk me through my problems.
