Everybody is arguing in the comments about if it's North and South America, America or North-South and Central America so let me put it straight. It depends on where you're from and how it's taught in your country. The word continent is very vague and doesn't actually describe what a continent is so naturally, you will have many interpretations of a continent.
In most places, it's taught that there are 7 continents: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia/Oceania.
Some places (Spanish speaking countries for example) teach that there are 6 continents. All of the previous ones but with North and South America replaced with America since there isn't any separation between them except the man-made Panama Canal.
Some places teach like the previous one by saying that Antarctica isn't a continent. So you now have 5 continents.
Then you have places that say: Ok so if America doesn't have any separation and therefore should be considered 1 continent, so should Asia and Europe! Now you have Eurasia and only 4 continents.
But then some people say that the same thing could be said about Africa, so now you have 3 continents! Afro-Eurasia, America, and Australia/Oceania.
Some people bump up the numbers and say that there are these continents: North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia but now they add Central America, and some people divide Australia and Oceania, some people consider India and the Middle East continents because Europe and Asia are divided by cultural differences so India and the Middle East should be the same because India and the Middle East are way different than each other and the rest of Asia. So now you have 10 continents!
Point is, you can keep drawing endless lines and adding more continents or erasing them and subtracting them. You can either have 30 continents or 3. It depends on the way you teach it and where you teach it. That's why most people agree on the 7 continents view of the world. Plus why do people even care about which continent they are considered part of? I am from Europe and I don't take pride in being European. I take pride in my nationality, and that is what you should be proud of and not the continent you're on.

Im pretty sure a lot of people in the US group Mexico with south america because of the culture and politics. Even though it is part of North America.
