A boy immobilized on a wheelchair spies other residents in the windows across the courtyard. He convinces himself of spotting an attempted assault on a little girl. Is he preventing a murder Or is he just not capable of seeing the whole picture The Recycling Man by Carlo Ballauri Starring Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (The Sandman, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Flora & Ulysses) Subtitles available in English, Italian, and Spanish Connect with the Filmmakers: More About The Recycling Man: In a poor and overpopulated, yet lonely suburban neighborhood, Jacob, a boy immobilized in a wheelchair, fights boredom by spying on his neighbors across the courtyard, while his mother, Valery, aggressively tries to convince Maria, her pregnant best friend, to have an abortion. Sarah, a girl of Jacob's age, spots the spying boy out and says hello with a piece of paper. The new friendship is, however, suddenly interrupted when a menacing garbage man approaches Sarah and attacks her from behind with a screwdriver. Jacob, even though he is stuck in his chair, will try everything to alert his mother. Valery, through Jacob's binoculars, sees the garbage man killing the little girl, but she tells Jacob that nothing important is happening. It really seems as if Valery doesn't really care about it and she's far more interested in Maria, and her baby's fate. Why does she care so much about whether her friend will abort the pregnancy or not And has Jacob really witnessed murder with his binoculars, or is he just incapable of seeing the whole picture The Recycling Man

10: 55 - Gee, don't throw TOO MUCH nazi symbolism in there. Germany 7, Brazil 1, beating the overly populated country.
What's the crappy writer's message Breed and have kids, we're in danger of extinction while the population is nearly 8 billion The world's population IS declining, but NOT through euthanasia or genocide. It's declining because predatory capitalism has made children unaffordable to young people. Talk about multinational corporate greed and how governments are trying to criminalize abortion while legalizing violence against and rape of women.

Absolutely incredible! It's a very simple film, a very simple story, yet it really reaches deep down into your emotions. Virginia Newcomb really knocked it out of the park here. She made that character feel so real. And I cared so much for he in that short twelve minute span.
The only thing I don't quite understand though is why did the recycling man try to conceal his face from the police Is he illegally scraping the machines or something If that is the case, what did I miss that indicated that

I saw more story and more stunning visuals in this short film, than any recent superhero movie.
Fantastic film. Would love to see this as a full length film, where we have a mother and father escape from the city and follow their story and hardships of being outcasts and actively hunted down by the government.
Seriously, how is Hollywood so bad now CGI in 100 million dollar movies looks like shit and here we have a fully believable scene of a dystopian future city.

I love this, and this should be in place already. we are not far off from this, check the rat in a tank exp done by a couple of universities. such a great scifi that is ever so close to the coming truth. I would fund this in a hearty beat. Also good acting as well, and nice production with a good flow of story at a good pace.
I am curious Carlo what inspired this

with so much technology, one would assume we will go out to colonize other star systems and we will actually need a lot of people for this. But yeah, if that didn't happen, then maybe only those who are authorized ie the rich or those with special skills or in high positions get to procreate in such a dystopian future.

Essentially the The Recycling Man is Blade Runner meets Hitchcocks mystery-thriller Rear Window. In Blade Runner, there’s bio-engineered people’, that are synthetic humans known as replicants. It’s pretty much the same in the dystopian future here. Great film.

Hi everybody! I'm the writer and the director of The Recycling Man. I really hope you'll enjoy the film! Feel free to ask me whatever you want. I may not have the answers, but together I'm sure we'll find more questions!

I like the idea but the uh, 'execution' was rather inhumane and unnecessary. In such a future mandated sterilization for all citizens of post-pubescent age would be a far more dignified way of handling the problem.

If there is credits or ending segment do not shove it in a side window in which it cannot be seen. have the other stuff show up after that all finishes and extend the video length by 15 seconds.
reply

Crocodile tears.
But as for the story - it's light years better than anything Hollywood is putting out now. I recognize that going indie will always be more satisfying in any medium.

If you have seen the movie A. I. by Steven Spielberg, you can relate to what this short movie is talking about. It was well made, and the acting was good as well so was the SPFX.
reply

Well done but unrealistic. There will never be a law punishing procreation with death on a money-focused society. Procreation is necessary to keep the population suppressed.

Honestly, the future is looking bleak enough without turning it into entertainment, again. I wanted to like these Dust films, but, are they all this dark

Pretty smart and realistic. Most cynical part is that if you pay TAX you can get pregnant, no problemo. As always, make people poor and blame them afterwards.
reply

I love it when a story surprises me. Exceptional. Definitely has that 'Wow, this could really happen' factor. I anticipate more of your work
reply

ya if you get to 21 Billion people. You're past dystopian. Everybody will be going. how could we have know. but we know now, but we have excuses.
reply

Wow, that was a awesome short ride and unfortunately if earth gets up to 21 billion people from the current 8 billion could be not far from reality.
reply

So much to this one. On one hand building sympathy for AI and on the other for population control we are very close to achieving
reply

You better hope to God the government prevents the poor from having babies if the population ever gets to 21 billion.
reply

I am noticing a right-leaning bent in these dust videos.
Not that I am complaining, but it is interesting sociologically.

reply

Dang, that was good.
Especially the acting.
Not that the special effects and plot weren't stellar as well.

reply

The world population wont be reaching 15Billion before a massive destruction event, self inflicted or space inflicted
reply

Wow! That was one of the most disturbing things I've ever watched. Well done. It certainly prompts thought.
reply

No need to go this route considering we have already successfully convinced the majority of women to murder babies
reply

. What are we to understand is the original Jacobs reason for being in a wheelchair.
. Did his Mother hurt him

reply

Top notch. Great acting all around. I was sucked in to the setting and state of mind of the characters on screen.
reply

If the nukes, climate change, and a bunch of over things don't hit a first, it may well come to this, good film.
reply

A really top notch movie in every way. except length lol. would love for this to fire-up a series! Nice job mate; )
reply

Jeeze I did not see the sharp left turn down dark-alley we took near the end. Great piece, but wow dark.
reply

I believe this should happen presently. People spawning children in modern times are disgusting.
reply

the chinese character on the wall means female. and whats with the over use of por favor
reply

Great story. Would make a great movie. It reminded me of Equilibrium. another great dystopian movie.
reply

Couldn't possibly happen. the 21 billion figure mentioned here should convince you it will.
reply

This was exceptionally done. Definitely deserves to be a series. Well done to all.
